Many of you recognize these two spritely fellows from our beautiful Congress Park. Here they are back when the park was part of the Canfield Casino and Hotel.
This shot was taken c.1904, and as you can see they put a lot of work into keeping the park quite beautiful for guests. Back then, the casino was a destination for people all over the country. Saratoga was seen as the American Monte Carlo.
The casino closed only a few years later, and the property was sold to the city. Luckily for us, the city kept the land preserved as a park, giving Saratoga a beautiful place walk, sit, and take in it’s ambience. Of course, today Spit and Spat are a hallmark of our city.
