Yaddo, founded in 1900 by Spencer and Katrina Trask, serves as a retreat for artists and musicians and provides them with a relaxed, comfortable environment in order to more easily focus on their work.
Part of the 400-acre estate includes a pergola (archway) that separates the Yaddo Gardens which were designed and dedicated by Spencer Trask to his wife. These two images show the pergola from c.1910 and today. As you can see above, not much has changed from over the last 100+ years, including the rose bushes!
