Explore the Woodcock Preserve
Located in Clifton Park, this preserve is the perfect place for spotting wildlife. On a walk through the Woodcock Preserve, watch for deer and birds; especially hawks, owls, and of course woodcocks!
How to Get There
Take Exit 10 off of I-87 and turn west onto Ushers Road. Quickly turn left onto Pierce Road, then right on Kinns Road. Follow this road to the end and take a right onto Vichers Ferry Road. Finally, take a left onto Tanner Road. The parking area will be on your right.
What to Expect
Operating as an active American Woodcock management area, the preserve attracts lots of animals to the 72-acre, forested area it contains. Listen carefully, as the woodcock makes a "distinctive...'peent' sound," and can be hard to spot due to their camouglaged coloring. Feel free to bring your dogs along, provided that they are leashed and cleaned up after. In addition, the Woodcock Preserve offers a fun-filled day to any nature-lover, with 2.4 miles of trails for observing, walking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing!
