Campbell<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Curtis Lumber Co.\u2019s Ballston Spa location will unveil a new bathroom design center this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">A ribbon cutting is scheduled for Thursday Sept. 12,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>and there will be a weekend of special events, including tours of the new showroom and the opportunity for \u201cspectacular savings,\u201d according to Elmer Manzer, facility coordinator for the store at 885 Route 67.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">A 34-year employee at Curtis, Manzer has seen the rise in popularity of the showroom concept, especially over the last two decades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cThe design centers have been growing for nearly 20 years,\u201d he said. \u201cThere is a massive project center that is like a year-round home show, featuring ideas for patios, lighting, kitchen cabinets and counters, a one-car garage and many other aspects of home building and renovation.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cThe showrooms have the same emphasis on quality as our clients have,\u201d Manzer said. \u201cEspecially when customers may have been saving for many years. They put their heart and soul and a lot of research into their home project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Curtis clients are both homeowners and contractors who are building new homes or renovating and updating existing ones. Manzer said he sees about an equal demand for new home needs as renovation projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Curtis has given \u201ca facelift and renovation of the kitchen section\u201d but the bathroom design center is brand new, featuring the work of the company\u2019s three in-house designer associates, Manzer said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cThere are different vignettes where the designer can display their personal style, from rustic to elegant,\u201d he said. \u201cOr they can collaborate on an installation and blend styles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The center has a \u201cwarm, open feel\u201d and Manzer said that it features a laundry room, shower installations, simple closet and complex closet concepts, with an array of products at different price points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cWe have created a balance for most people\u2019s wants and desires,\u201d he said. \u201cPeople love choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Manzer said today\u2019s home products are trending around energy efficiency and technology. In a new home, clients generally want the \u201clatest and greatest,\u201d while the \u201cone-and-done\u201d homeowner is looking for \u201clongevity and guarantees. If flipping houses, the goal is quality at a fair price.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cMany clients are now integrating Smart technologies into their homes for both comfort and peace of mind,\u201d he said, noting that the technology allows setting the thermostat remotely through an electronic device.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cOur primary brand of window is Andersen, which offers anything from vinyl replacement to custom products and Energy Star efficiency. For a well insulated door we offer Therma Tru brand, also Energy Star rated,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Another trending way to improve energy efficiency is radiant heat. But watch out for the type of flooring selected to lay on top of the hot water conduits, he cautioned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cTongue and groove, laminates and some engineered woods that float or can be glued on can all go over a radiant heat installation,\u201d Manzer said. \u201cBut not wood, which has to be nailed in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Other trends and purchasing decisions are pushed by TV shows, according to Manzer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cSome clients come in and ask for the sliding barn door or iron pipe floating shelves they saw on a popular renovation show,\u201d he said. \u201cThese trends can be budget friendly while adding class to a room without a lot of effort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Curtis staff gives as much consultation as clients may need and \u201cfocuses on understanding their environment and how they live,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Manzer said he expects the new bathroom design center at Ballston Spa to be a destination for clients and designers from all around the area, including the North Country where Curtis has a Queensbury store, as its showrooms have been in the past.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Learn more about the building materials, home products and design services offered by Curtis Lumber at\u00a0www.curtislumber.com.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Susan E.
