Saratoga Hospital<\/b> has received a $100,000 donation from the Hannaford Charitable Foundation<\/b> to support a new Teaching Food Pantry at the Saratoga Community Health Center.<\/p>\n
The new Hannaford Teaching Food Pantry will complement and expand on the nutrition, health, and chronic disease management programs offered at the Community Health Center. The dedicated space will provide storage for a greater variety of healthy food items that will be used in one-on-one teaching opportunities, as well as in conjunction with the CHC\u2019s ongoing series of programs for diabetes and chronic disease management, and its nutrition prescription program.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/span>Saratoga Hospital will be renovating 2,800 square feet of unoccupied space on the second floor of the CHC to accommodate the Hannaford Teaching Food Pantry, along with a new community and training room, multiple office spaces for partner nonprofits, and additional clinical services. The total budget for the renovations is estimated at $450,000. Projected completion will be in the latter half of the year, officials said.<\/p>\n ***<\/p>\n Saratoga Casino Hotel<\/b>\u2019s community outreach team, Hands For Hope, provided a free meal to more than 300 guests at an outdoor picnic in June benefiting Project Lift, a program of the Franklin Community Center.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The event took place at the Columbia Pavilion inside Saratoga State Park and was the second time hotel donated the food for the picnic. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Project Lift\u2019 initiative is a free after-school program aimed at providing students in grades 1-5 with positive role models and additional education. The goal of the program is to offer a positive developmental path for students in the Saratoga Springs school district.<\/p>\n Saratoga Casino Hotel created Hands For Hope in 2016 to encourage employees to get involved in local causes across the Capital Region. More than a dozen casino employees volunteered their time to assist with catering the event. Saratoga Casino Hotel donated all of the food and drinks for the picnic.<\/p>\n ***<\/p>\n The National Museum of Dance in Saratoga Springs will host a fundraising event to benefit Second Chance Sports & the Learning League,\u00a0 <\/span>a nonprofit organization that offers therapies for individuals suffering from PTSD, spinal injuries and other health concerns.<\/p>\n It will be held 6-10 p.m.\u00a0 <\/span>Tuesday, July 31. The money will support veterans, active military and track workers that need assistance through Second Chance Sports & the Learning League.<\/p>\n Musicians will provide live entertainment. There will be a tasting with several of the area\u2019s restaurants\/caterers. There willl be dancing, live and silents auctions and raffles.<\/p>\n Several of the nation\u2019s premier stable owners, trainers, jockeys, and racehorse industry professionals are slated to lend their assistance in conjunction with many business owners and veterans and civic organizations. The 90-minute historical walking tour celebrates Saratoga\u2019s Victorian era and the classic Victorian stroll.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Through Sept. 3, tours will run Monday through Saturday. The season will wrap up in the fall, with tours taking place on Saturdays only in September and October.\u00a0 <\/span>All tours begin at 10:30 am, rain or shine, and meet at the Saratoga Heritage Area Visitor Center, 297 Broadway, Saratoga Springs.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span>The cost is $8 per person, and children under 12 are free.
