The Round Lake Library<\/b> Malta branch will be hosting a Social Security retirement information program on Tuesday, May 15 at 6 p.m. in the Holden Room for pre-retirees wanting to make a more informed claiming decision.<\/p>\n
Topics covered include: When is the best time to file for benefits; navigating the new Social Security rules; Choosing between worker and spousal benefits; and how to get all of what you\u2019re entitled to.<\/p>\n
The hour-long program entitled, \u201cGetting Serious about Social Security,\u201d is designed to help individuals better prepare for the financial challenges of retirement given the potential for living longer. The program is being offered as a public service by John N. Kalil, Jr., financial coach and president of Retirement Solutions LLC.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The event is open to the public and there is no cost to attend. Seating is limited with pre-registration required in advance. To register, call the library at (518) 682-2495.<\/p>\n ***<\/p>\n The Adirondack Trust Co. <\/b>will host its annual personal document shredding day on Saturday, May 5.<\/p>\n The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of bank\u2019s Mabee Building, at 31 Church St., Saratoga Springs.<\/p>\n People are welcome to bring personal data for confidential destruction. Items that will be accepted for shredding include sensitive papers (white or color), carbon paper, file folders, old checkbooks, bank statements, expired credit cards or debit cards, and plastic ID cards. Paper items with staples and\/or paperclips will be accepted, and these items do not need to be removed prior to shredding.<\/p>\n This service is limited to two boxes per person.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n ***<\/p>\n Ulysses S. Grant Cottage<\/b> state historic site is looking for volunteers to assist with operations throughout the upcoming season. Volunteer opportunities are available for adults and teens (age 14 and up).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Available positions include tour guide, visitor center greeter, education assistant, and parking attendant. Schedules are flexible, and training is provided. No experience is necessary. Applicants may fill out an application online at www.GrantCottage.org\/volunteer or contact Site Coordinator Ben Kemp at ben@grantcottage.org or (518) 584-4353.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Grant Cottage is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day, plus bonus Tuesdays during track season, and on weekends from Labor Day through Columbus Day.<\/p>\n ***<\/p>\n The Academy for Lifelong Learning<\/b> will present a program on the restoration of historic sites from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Holiday Inn, Saratoga Springs, on Friday May 18, at the Holiday Inn, Saratoga Springs.<\/p>\n M. Jeffrey Baker, a partner in the firm of Mesick Cohen Wilson Baker Architects, will be the featured speaker. A sit-down lunch will be served at noon, following the presentation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n It is open to the public.<\/p>\n The event is a major fundraiser for the Academy and is sponsored by Prestwick Chase. Reservations will be accepted through May 14.<\/p>\n Baker spearheaded the restoration projects including Thomas Jefferson\u2019s Monticello, several of the Jefferson-designed buildings at the University of Virginia and James Madison\u2019s Montpelier. Closer to home, his projects included the Hyde Collection Museum in Glens Falls, the Vermont Statehouse and the New York State Capitol, where Mr. Baker served as a member of the Commission to Restore the New York State Capitol for several years as a Senate appointee.<\/p>\n ***<\/p>\n Alan Oppenheim of ACO Property Advisors <\/b>announced that long-term tenant, the Handcrafted Soap & Cosmetic Guild Inc. (HSCG), has relocated to ACO\u2019s office building at 184 Edie Road in Wilton.<\/p>\n The home office for HSCG, now located at 184 Edie Road, is over seen by Executive Director Leigh O\u2019Donnell.
