The Saratoga Builders Association Inc.<\/b> will be awarding a $1,000 student scholarship in 2017. The organization makes the scholarship available annually to high school seniors who are planning to pursue a construction industry education. <\/span><\/p>\n The scholarship award is open to any high school senior in Saratoga County who is planning to pursue construction education at a two- or four-year accredited college or university or to students who would like to purchase tools for employment in construction. <\/span><\/p>\n Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. They must demonstrate current or past involvement in the construction field, including classes taken in high school, to be eligible for this award. Each applicant must also submit a high school transcript or list of construction classes taken plus a short essay describing why they are interested in a construction industry career and what events led to this decision.<\/span><\/p>\n Applications for the scholarship must be postmarked on or before April 1. Only the first 25 completed applications will be accepted. The winner and their school will be notified by June 1. <\/span><\/p>\n To receive a scholarship application, contact Barry Potoker, executive director, at 366-0946 or bpotoker@saratogabuilders.org.<\/span><\/p>\n * * *<\/span><\/p>\n The Saratoga County Prosperity Partnership<\/b> will host a small business workshop series\u00a0 <\/span>designed for people who are thinking about starting their own business or are ready to move their startup business to the next level.<\/span><\/p>\n Attendees will hear from experts on the things they should know, including how to build a business plan, financing options, and workforce development resources. The workshop will end with one-on-one sessions between the attendees and experts.<\/span><\/p>\n Workshop dates and locations include: <\/span><\/p>\n \u2022 <\/b>5:30-7 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Mechanicville Elks Lodge, 300 Park Ave, Mechanicville. <\/span><\/p>\n \u2022 <\/b>5:30-7 p.m. Feb. 16, at the Corinth Emergency Squad community room, 101 Sherman Ave, Corinth.<\/span><\/p>\n \u2022 <\/b>5:30-7 p.m. March 2, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton, 86 Congress St., Saratoga Springs.<\/span><\/p>\n \u2022 <\/b>5:30-7 p.m., March 16, at the Village of South Glens Falls meeting room, 46 Saratoga Ave., South Glens Falls.<\/span><\/p>\n \u2022 <\/b>5:30-7 p.m., March 30 at Saratoga Town Hall\u2019s Schuyler room, 12 Spring St., Schuylerville.<\/span><\/p>\n Those who would like to attend can contact the Partnership at 871-1887. For more information about the Partnership, visit saratogapartnership.org.<\/span><\/p>\n * * *<\/span><\/p>\n Members of the sales department at the Saratoga Hilton<\/b> recently presented Lisa Nichols, president of the Dake Foundation for Children<\/b>, with a donation check of $7,200. <\/span><\/p>\n The donation was a result of proceeds from the downtown hotel\u2019s annual Breakfast with Santa event held in December. Officials said this year\u2019s event resulted in a record amount donated to the foundation, which was founded to provide children with disabilities the tools they need to become as independent as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n This event included a buffet breakfast, a gift raffle and an opportunity to take photos with Santa Claus. The money will be used to fund\u00a0 <\/span>continuing efforts to provide children with disabilities access to equipment and services that will enable them to reach their fullest potential for participation within their families, communities and with their peers. <\/span><\/p>\n * * *<\/span><\/p>\n The Saratoga County Historical Society<\/b> received a $16,859 grant from the Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust for a renovation project. <\/span><\/p>\n The grant will allow SCHS to renovate storage space for its costume\/textile collection as part of a larger project: upgrading the second-floor collections storage that also includes photograph\/archive\/library collections housed at Brookside Museum. <\/span><\/p>\n Once completed, the space will be named the Alfred Z. Solomon Costume and Textile Storage.<\/span><\/p>\n SCHS provides an educational view into the history of Saratoga County. <\/span><\/p>\n * * *<\/span><\/p>\n Colden Co.
