This Perkins Hollow one-room schoolhouse of the Washington County Fair Farm Museum is part of a conference that will have events at Skidmore College and in Greenwich.\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
The Washington County Fair Farm Museum \nwith its Perkins Hollow one-room schoolhouse \nis hosting the annual Conference of the Country \nSchool Association of America June 14-17 \nat Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs and \nthe Washington County Fair Farm Museum in \nGreenwich.<\/p>\n
The Skidmore College campus and the Fair \nFarm Museum will host two days of presentations \nand workshops on early schooling, curriculum \nand preservation of historic country \nschools. There will also be local displays and \npresentations featuring area schoolhouses, the \nslate industry, the Ticonderoga pencil, and other \nrelated topics.<\/p>\n
A charter bus tour of preserved and restored \nschool buildings is set for day three of the event.<\/p>\n
The CSAA is for people who wish to preserve \nschools, create or maintain museums, promote \nliving history programs, and allow children of \nall ages to experience schooling as it was many \nyears ago, organizers said. It gives senior citizens \na chance to relive their fondest schoolhouse \nmemories, offers educators and writers a forum \nto share research and publishes a country school \njournal of articles.<\/p>\n
Registration information along with a look at \nconference presentations and presenters can be \nfound on the website www.countryschoolassociationofamerica.org or through its Facebook page.<\/p>\n
CSAA also offers a variety of financial grants \nand award programs. Funding is available for \npreservation efforts, disaster relief, and conference \nattendance. There are awards for publications, \nvideos, websites and other artistry items \npromoting the country schooling experience. \nFurther details of the grant and awards are \nlisted on the website.<\/p>\n
The CSAA brings a diverse group of individuals \ntogether including museum volunteers, teachers, \nstaff, faculty and students, preservationists, \nhistorians, re-enactors and interested citizens, \nto exchange ideas and resources. The CSAA \nholds an annual conference, provides a grant \nprogram, awards publication and video prizes, \nconducts surveys and publishes an electronic \nnewsletter, all in support of the country schooling \nexperience.<\/p>\n
The CSAA states it is for people who wish to \npreserve schools, create or maintain museums, \npromote living history programs, and allow \nchildren of all ages to experience schooling as it \nwas many years ago. It allows seniors a chance to \nrelive their fondest schoolhouse memories, while \noffering educators and writers a forum to share \nresearch. The organization encourages research \non country schooling and provides a forum for \nthose who wish to publish their articles.<\/p>\n
Officials said the annual conference grows \nlarger as a forum for exchanging ideas among \nacademics, preservationists, re-enactors, and \njust plain history buffs.<\/p>\n
