The company also allows renovation of existing spaces\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>BY LIZ WITBECK<\/p>\n<p>SONIC, the drive-in restaurant chain based<br \/>\nin the central United States, plans to open seven<br \/>\nnew franchise locations in the Capital District this<br \/>\nyear, including Saratoga Springs and Clifton Park.<\/p>\n<p>Company officials said the franchise operates<br \/>\nin 44 states and is expanding to the Northeastern<br \/>\nUnited States in order to meet growing demand.<\/p>\n<p>SONIC recently opened restaurants in the<br \/>\nRochester, Watertown, and Orange County areas,<br \/>\nwith other locations soon coming to Buffalo and<br \/>\nSyracuse.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At this time, we are unable to confirm exact<br \/>\nlocations or opening dates for additional upstate<br \/>\ndrive-ins, but hope to have good news to share<br \/>\nin the near future,&#8221; said Bob Franke, senior vice<br \/>\npresident of franchise sales and international<br \/>\ndevelopment for SONIC.<\/p>\n<p>He said Upstate New York &#8220;is definitely a priority<br \/>\nmarket for SONIC Drive-In. In under two years<br \/>\nwe&#8217;ve announced four new franchise development<br \/>\nagreements to bring a total of 27 new drive-ins to<br \/>\nthe top four markets in the region.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Community reception has been incredible,<br \/>\nand recent drive-in openings in Watertown and<br \/>\nRochester have been extremely successful. Beyond<br \/>\nthis planned growth, we are still seeking<br \/>\nout qualified franchisees in Binghamton, Ithaca,<br \/>\nUtica, Rockland and Westchester counties, as well<br \/>\nas nearby states.<\/p>\n<p>SONIC is best known for its drive-in experience. Guests can drive up to one of the dining<br \/>\nstalls, where one of the carhops on in-line skates<br \/>\nwill take orders and bring it out to the car. Guests<br \/>\ncan also order through the drive-through or order<br \/>\ninside the restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>Menu items include hamburgers and cheeseburgers,<br \/>\nConey hot dogs, and slushes.<\/p>\n<p>The first new location for the region, in Latham,<br \/>\nis expected to open in the spring.<br \/>\n&#8220;Through a combination of word-of-mouth<br \/>\nand increased national advertising, we&#8217;ve cultivated<br \/>\nstrong demand for the SONIC experience<br \/>\nnationwide, and we see tremendous opportunity<br \/>\nto expand in the Northeast, in particular,&#8221; said<br \/>\nFranke. &#8220;Public response to our growth in upstate<br \/>\nNew York has been phenomenal, with drive-ins<br \/>\nopening in Watertown and Rochester to lines<br \/>\naround the block.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We look forward to working with the Fast Eats<br \/>\nteam to continue to drive success in a market<br \/>\nthat&#8217;s been clamoring for SONIC for years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The company said it will work with franchisees<br \/>\nto create flexibility within their location.
