The local BG Restaurant LLC is opening
\na Smashburger location in Saratoga Springs
\nsometime next month.
\nSmashburger is a seven-year-old chain of
\ncasual burger restaurants that originated in
\nDenver, Colo., and has more than 200 stores.<\/p>\n
For BG Restaurant LLC partners Marc
\nGoldstein and Leo Butera, it is their second
\nrestaurant in the Capital District, the other
\nbeing on Wolf Road in Colonie.
\nGoldstein and Butera formed the company
\njust last year. They said they are very
\nexcited about the second location, set to
\nopen in mid-January in the Fresh Market
\nPlaza off of Marion and Excelsior avenues.<\/p>\n
The Colonie location has been successful
\naccording to Butera, and the lifelong
\nfriends and business partners are expecting
\nthe same from the Saratoga franchise.<\/p>\n
“We chose Saratoga as it is a growing,
\nthriving area. This location is approximately
\n30 miles from the Wolf Road site,
\nso that limits cannibalization between the
\nsites. It also creates a great opportunity to
\nexpose Smashburger to many new people,”
\nsaid Butera.<\/p>\n
Butera said one of the main reasons for
\nSaratoga is because it draws so many visitors
\nto the area.
\nButera said the partners signed on with
\nthe franchise to open five more stores over
\nthe next five years.<\/p>\n
Between the two, Goldstein and Butera
\nhave over 30 years of business development
\nand restaurant experience. Goldstein is
\ndirector of real estate at Columbia Development
\nCompanies. Before opening Smashburger,
\nButera did his homework, saying
\nhe knew the company was fast-growing.
\nHe said as more people are searching for
\nsomething different, and with a fresher
\nand higher quality, it fits what consumers
\nwant.”<\/p>\n
Whether they are relatively local, from
\neastern Upstate New York, or from distances
\noutside the area, they will be able
\nto experience Smashburger. We feel we
\nhave a great product and we need to get
\npeople to see Smashburger and give it a
\ntry,” said Butera.<\/p>\n
Butera said the Fresh Market plaza was
\nespecially desirable because it is on Route
\n50, which has wide visibility. He said it’s
\nunique because it draws traffic, but it also
\nis close to the Saratoga residential areas,
\nbusinesses and Skidmore College.
\n“This gives us a great opportunity to create
\nraving fans with both the local population
\nand visitors,” said Butera.<\/p>\n
Smashburger specializes in using fresh
\nAngus beef. The smash in Smashburger
\ncomes from the “smashing” technique that
\nis used to seal in juices and flavors.<\/p>\n
In addition to the menu’s classic smash
\n(burger), the restaurants serve bacon
\ncheeseburgers, classic chicken, avocado
\nclub chicken, fresh salads, hand-spun
\nshakes, vegetable frites, haystack onions,
\ndeep fried pickles, smash fries and regular
\nfries. There is a choice of buns: egg, multigrain,
\nspicy chipotle and brioche.
\nIn addition to soft drinks and shakes, the
\nrestaurants also serve beer.<\/p>\n
The partners said the next scheduled
\nSmashburger location is Clifton Park.
