Saratoga Springs Resident Named New CEO At GlobalFoundries, Moving On From Fab 8

After more than four years as chief executive officer of GlobalFoundries, Sanjay Jha will hand over the company’s top position to Dr. Thomas Caulfield, who has been the senior vice president and general manager of the Malta Fab 8 plant since 2014.

Caulfield, who lives in Saratoga Springs, joined the company in 2014 following a career spanning engineering, management, operational leadership and global executive experience with leading technology companies including 17 years at IBM in a variety of senior leadership roles.

Development Company Plans Affordable Apartments In Malta For Senior And Families

A residential complex is being planned for construction at 2621 Route 9 in Malta.

It is the project of Conifer Realty and Development, based in Rochester. The plan is to build 166 new apartments for families and senior citizens.

Brian Donato, senior project director, said the plan is to develop the property as a combination of senior and workforce housing. The rental units will be offered at less than the market rate.

“We want to create an integrated community for families and seniors,” said Donato. “We hope to create a great community feeling. We find that in these types of living situations, seniors appreciate having kids around. It creates a good family feeling.”

Proposed is a three-story building that comprises the senior living space will have a total of 70 units and be approximately 70,000 square feet. The common spaces for the complex will be inside of the senior living tower, where there will be a senior clubhouse and a separate family clubhouse, according to plans submitted to the town.

There will be outdoor seating and playground adjacent to the senior housing/clubhouse building

The 12 three-story buildings for families will each have eight units and be approximately 10,000 square feet each, comprising a total of 96 units, according to the plans.

Bennington Furniture Expands, Opens A Store In The Fresh Market Plaza In Saratoga Springs

Bennington Furniture Inc., has recently expanded, launching a new storefront in Saratoga Springs.

The business—Bennington Mattress—is located in the Fresh Market Plaza, situated between Smashburger and Charles Schwab, off Marian Avenue.

Founded in Bennington, Vt., the 25-year-old company has grown rapidly—from two to eight stores—the closest being in Queensbury. There are four in Vermont—Rutland, West Dover, Manchester and Bennington—and one in Pittsfield, Mass.

A furniture, mattress, and interior design store, the company boasts “the best customer service in the industry,” highlighted by interior designer staff committed to helping customers find the most satisfactory deal.

“The Saratoga market is more progressive,” said Daniel Sardina, advertising and marketing person with the company. “We love the community.”

Architectural Glass And Metal Will Move Its Operations To Facility In Halfmoon In

Architectural Glass and Metal (AGM) is moving to a new location.

The firm will occupy 3 Liebich Lane in Halfmoon. The move is tentatively scheduled for mid-August, officials said. The company is currently located at 11B Solar Drive in Halfmoon.

AGM is an architectural contracting firm founded in 1986. They provide glass and metal paneling for commercial properties in the Capital Region.

The new location is 24,000 square feet, the same amount of space as the current location. But there is more warehouse space within the building, which AGM plans to lease out to other companies, officials said.

The facility where AGM is currently housed is two floors, requiring employees to have to move back and forth between levels. The new space will hold the fabrication area all on one floor.

“It’s a better layout and will allow us to be more efficient. The new building will also give us the opportunity to grow and utilize more space if necessary” said Mike Haverly, company vice president.

Chamber Of Southern Saratoga County Marks 50 Years At Its Awards Celebration In Clifton Park

The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County held its 50th annual awards celebration on April 26 in front of a packed house at the Hilton Garden Inn in Clifton Park, the community where the organization got its start in 1967.

For their signature event, the Chamber presented seven awards for excellence to its members, out of a record 30 nominees and 1,500 votes cast, said Pete Bardunias, Chamber president and CEO.

The Connors Agency of Mechanicville took the Endurance Award for longevity while CAP COM Federal Credit Union won the Inspiration Award.

Field Goods of Hudson received the Innovation Award for region-wide impact, and CDPHP took the Strong Community Award.

The 2016 Ambassador of the Year was Donna Connor of On The Go Concierge & Events, for her dedication as a volunteer of the organization.

Mike Russo of GlobalFoundries presented the Entrepreneurial Success Award to Louise McManus of Vischer Ferry General Store, the only business located in that hamlet, first erected in 1787.

Colin Cowie Lifestyle, An Event Production Company, Opens Office In Saratoga Springs

Colin Cowie Lifestyle, an event production service, has opened an office in Saratoga Springs.

The company has added Saratoga to a list of existing offices in New York City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Francisco. Its office is at 60 Railroad Place, Suite 301.

Cowie’s dossier reportedly includes some of the most talked about parties and events around the world. His event orchestration has led him around the globe, delivering services ranging from royal weddings to product launches and things in between.

According to the company, Cowie’s career has taken him over 13 million travel miles in an array of partnerships with hospitality providers and real estate developers.

Cowie is already respected for his role in several private events in the region. The traffic brought in by the racetrack and surrounding amenities has proven to draw several destination weddings and events from all over the east coast, providing ample opportunity for the tasteful elegance he has been known to deliver to clients.

Cowie has also planned events in the Finger Lakes region.

At the helm of the expansion to Saratoga Springs is Maureen Baringer. She will serve as regional business development director for Colin Cowie Lifestyle in Saratoga Springs, Lake George, Lake Placid and the Finger Lakes region.

Baringer began working with Cowie in 2016, when he was hired to produce her daughter’s wedding. Baringer is the founder and president of Baringer & Associates, an events planning company that has worked throughout New York state for over 23 years.

Authentic Asian Cuisine A Staple At ‘Bua Thai’ Restaurant Located At Ellsworth Commons

Bua Thai is a restaurant in Malta’s Ellsworth Commons that provides Asian cuisine. Owner Lek Cameron said customers can expect authentic Thai food in an atmosphere that allows them to visit Thailand, if just for an hour or two.

“With our food and uniforms, people come in and can’t believe it. It is like visiting Thailand. You feel like you are not eating the food but visiting the place,” she said.

“I am really feeling so happy right now with things, we are doing quite well,” said Cameron. The restaurant has benefited from growing surrounding businesses like GlobalFoundries.

Cameron is committed to bringing authentic Thai food to the region. She also appreciates customer feedback and is happy to accommodate and customize dishes.

“If it’s not on the menu, we can still try to make a requested dish. We want people to experience just how good Thai food should be,” said Cameron.

Regional Economic Development Council Opens Its Annual Competitive Grant Process

New York state has launched Round VII of the Regional Economic Development Council initiative, officially kicking off the annual competition for more than $800 million in state economic development resources.

The Consolidated Funding Application opened to applicants on May 1, enabling businesses, municipalities, nonprofits and members of the public to begin applying, through a single application, for assistance from dozens of state programs for projects that create jobs and help to revitalize communities.

“The Regional Economic Development Councils have successfully brought local communities together like never before, spurring economic growth from the ground up and creating jobs across New York,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. “With the seventh round of the REDC awards, the state will continue its partnership with local governments and community leaders—making smart investments in our cities, towns and villages to give the Regional Councils the tools needed to build their communities for years to come.”

Through six rounds of the REDC competition, the Capital Region REDC, which includes Saratoga and Warren counties, has delivered $436.9 million for 608 projects, officials said.

Round VII of the REDC initiative will award more than $800 million in state resources across all 10 regions, including up to $225 million in performance-based grants and tax credits from Empire State Development, and approximately $575 million from two dozen state agency programs.

The governor said the REDC process has transformed New York state government’s approach to economic development, creating a statewide framework for bottom-up economic growth and streamlining the application process for state funding. Since 2011, the first year of the initiative, over $4.6 billion has been awarded to more than 5,200 projects that are projected to create and retain more than 210,000 jobs statewide.

Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, who heads the Regional Economic Development Councils said, “By empowering the people who know their communities the best, the governor has transformed this state’s economic development strategy into one that is not only successful, but is built to last. As the chair of the Regional Councils, I have seen proof that this investment in innovation and technology has revitalized our economy and there is a new confidence among local elected officials. Projects initiated with REDC funding are redeveloping our downtowns, retaining and expanding businesses, and rebuilding our infrastructure for the 21st Century.”

Adirondack Foot Care Plans To Build A New Facility To Accommodate Growing Business

Adirondack Foot Care is planning on constructing a new facility for its medical practice, as well as other practices, pending the approval of the Clifton Park Town Board.

Adirondack Foot Care is located at 950 Route 146 in Clifton Park.

“We’ve grown over the years and are expanding because of our success,” said Dr. Salvatore Galluzzo, who founded Adirondack Foot and Ankle in 1991.

Galluzzo currently owns three buildings in Clifton Park: Adirondack Foot Care and Advanced Laser Med Spa, which are housed in the same building; Lab Corporation, a laboratory testing facility; and Little Lambs Daycare.

Plans are underway to construct a much larger building that would accommodate Adirondack Foot Care and Lab Corporation. In the new space, Lab Corporation would have double the amount of space they have now, he said.

The building will also have other medical practices. While Galluzzo did not want to disclose the exact businesses at this time, he said that the medical businesses who will be tenants will be new medical practices to the town of Clifton Park.
