In the late 1990s, when acquisitions fever was high, a group of venture capitalists made an offer to Fred Giardinelli, owner of Eastern Heating and Cooling, a thriving company that does work throughout the Capital District, including the Glens Falls and Saratoga areas: They would buy his company, but he would continue to operate it.
He accepted the offer, as did enough other business owners, to form a 12-company conglomerate that is now Comfort Systems USA, a national company listed on the New York Stock Exchange that has some $2.1 billion in annual revenues.

Adirondack Health Institute Gets Five-Year Grant To Help Reduce The Use Of Tobacco

Adirondack Health Institute was awarded a five-year grant by the state Department of Health Bureau of Tobacco Control to support the reduction and prevention of tobacco use in Warren, Washington, and Saratoga counties.
Advancing Tobacco-Free Communities (ATFC) will engage and educate community leaders and members, leverage resources, and mobilize organizations to advance local tobacco control efforts.

Saratoga Hospital recently invested about $2 million in robot-assisted surgical technology to give patients increased access to the most advanced minimally invasive surgeries.
Funds were used to purchase the latest-generation surgical robot—the da Vinci Xi—as a second robotic system at the hospital, as well as to upgrade the hospital’s existing robotic system to the newest technology.

Saratoga Hospital To Proceed With Building New Medical Facility Near Northway Exit 18

Saratoga Hospital is proceeding with plans to construct a medical building at Exit 18 following unanimous approval by the Queensbury Planning Board at its April 30 meeting.
“The Planning Board process is now complete,” said a spokesperson for Saratoga Hospital. “The site plan has been approved and a SEQRA negative declaration prepared.”

The Adirondack Wine & Food Festival will return to the Charles R. Wood Festival Commons in Lake George on Saturday, June 29, and Sunday, June 30.
The fifth annual, family friendly wine and food tasting event will feature a record 120-plus vendors, according to Sasha Pardy, festival owner and co-owner of the presenting sponsor, Adirondack Winery in Lake George.
It includes producers of New York state wines, craft beverages, artisan foods, 11 food trucks, arts and crafts and more.

Nonprofits Can Apply For Grant Applications

The Adirondack Trust Co. Community Fund is accepting grant applications from eligible nonprofit charities headquartered in the Saratoga, Warren and Washington counties.
The grant window is open until Aug. 30, according to Caroline Putman, chair of the Community Fund’s independent advisory committee.
Grants are to be used during calendar year 2020. Grant information and application forms may be obtained from the Adirondack Trust Co. Community Fund website at ATCCF.org/Nonprofits.

Affordable Housing Money From NYS Will Help Proposed Saratoga Apartment Complex

The state has awarded $15.2 million to four affordable housing developments in the Capital Region that it says will create or preserve 218 affordable homes. One is in Saratoga Springs and one in Glens Falls.
The funding is part of $175.4 million the state is awarding to build or preserve more than 2,185 affordable apartments and revitalize communities across New York’s 10 regions.
