Teachers in the Saratoga Springs School District are going back to school, and so are administrators and non-instructional staff members.
They can attend programs in school, through the internet, or at off-campus locations. Keeping all these things organized is Melissa Drummond-Kerrick, the district coordinator for professional development, aided by a professional development committee and an administrative assistant who “keeps me organized and on time.”.
In the past, professional development activities were provided under the aegis of the Human Resources Department, Drummond-Kerrick noted. But during the almost two years she has been in this new position, far more programs have become available and she has made an effort to coordinate them.
Saratoga City Center Getting Closer To Building Its Long-Awaited Parking Garage

The Saratoga City Center is awaiting final approval from the city to build Flat Rock Center, a 600-space parking garage.
The move would end a long debate as to what to do with the property and how to provide more parking for the center.
City Center executive director Ryan McMahon said the approximately $15 million, project would be paid for through the center’s budget.
Saratoga Prosperity Partnership To Work On Economic Development Plan For Galway
The Saratoga County Prosperity Partnership will work with the Town of Galway to create an economic development plan specifically tailored to the town’s current needs and future aspirations.
Officials said the collaboration is part of the Saratoga Partnership’s Next Wave Communities initiative, which assists local towns within Saratoga County in developing customized economic development plans.
Plans To Build Medical Offices Adjacent To Saratoga Hospital Continue To Advance
A positive decision by the Saratoga County Planning Board represents an important step forward for Saratoga Hospital’s plans to develop medical offices in close proximity to the its main campus, hospital officials said.
At a meeting in April, the board approved a change intended to align the zoning map with the city’s comprehensive plan. That would lead to a zoning change to allow for construction of medical offices on Morgan Street.
State Opens Annual Competition For Grant Money For Community Development Projects
New York state has launched Round IX of the Regional Economic Development Council initiative, officially kicking off the 2019 competition for more than $750 million in state economic development resources.
The Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) is open to applicants, enabling businesses, municipalities, nonprofits and the public to begin applying for assistance from dozens of state programs, through a single application, for job-creation and community development projects.
Plaza 15 Self Storage In Saratoga Springs Adds More Than 500 Climate-Controlled Units

Plaza 15 Self Storage on Gick Road in Saratoga Springs recently opened a new section with more than 500 climate-controlled units.
The expansion brings their total storage space to 1,357 units. All but 700 of those are climate-controlled.
Mary Ann Debounaventura-Lawrence, facility manager, cited a growing demand for climate-controlled storage space. Previously, the facility had only 125 climate-controlled units and “we needed more,” she said.

Carson’s Woodside Tavern’s new patio, The Overlook, is the place to be this season for outdoor lounging and a view of Saratoga Lake.
The local bar and restaurant recently completed its latest improvement project, transforming the outdoor patio space. The purpose was to make the most of the view of Saratoga Lake and the surrounding Vermont mountains.
Panza’s New Restaurant On South Broadway Unveiled; Includes An Upper Music Lounge
Local brothers Tony and Michael Panza opened on May 2 their restaurant at the new location at 129 South Broadway in Saratoga Springs.
They’ teamed up with capital region builder Chris Marchand to restore the former Trade Winds restaurant to house Panza’s Broadway Saratoga.
Ribbon Cutting Event Held To Celebrate 50 Years In Business For Roohan Realty Group
Roohan Realty celebrated its 50th anniversary with friends, family and associates with a Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony in April.
The event was held outside its 519 Broadway offices.
The company was founded by the late John T. Roohan in 1969. His son, Tom Roohan, earned his real estate license in 1979 and currently serves as president.
