One of the region’s ophthalmology and optometry practices has joined Saratoga Hospital’s multispecialty medical group.

As of Jan. 1, Eye Care Specialists became Saratoga Hospital Medical Group-Eye Care.

Drs. Thomas Francomano, Mark Verra and Enrique Yepes-Hoyos remain in practice together in the new group. They are seeing patients on Saratoga Hospital’s Wilton Campus, in newly renovated offices on the second floor of Saratoga Surgery Center.

“For decades, our community and our hospital have benefited from the skill, expertise and compassion of these doctors,” said Dr. David Mastrianni, senior vice president, Saratoga Hospital Medical Group. “Bringing them on board the hospital medical group cements our already strong relationship and ensures that our region has continued access to the highest quality eye care.”

With the start of 2018 comes new year’s resolutions, and the GYM, which opened on Dec. 18, is ready to help people meet their fitness goals.

The GYM located in South Glens Falls since 2014. The popularity and success caused the business to outgrow its space. Now located at 762 Upper Glen St. in the Queensbury Shopping Plaza, the new, 7,300-square-foot facility offers members a larger facility, new equipment and an athletic trainer, T.J. Harrington, who once worked with the then-Anaheim Angels professional baseball team, and a physical therapist, Adam Lewis.

Unlike a standard gym, where members are left to work out independently, the GYM operates more like a training facility. When members first sign up, they receive an assessment, wherein a trainer determines what their personal fitness goals are and helps them set a schedule in order to achieve them.

From there, members are carefully supervised and attended by a professional trainer, who assures they’re utilizing the proper techniques in their workouts.

ABC Equipment and Restaurant Supplies has moved to South Glens Falls. Owner Fred Alexy said while they loved their time in downtown Glens Falls, on Elm Street, the growth of the business warranted the relocation.

The business supplies kitchens with specialized items such as commercial ovens and coolers and deep fryers. Over the past several years the wholesale side of the business experienced growth. While they still have a retail side, Alexy said it came to a point where they were running out of space to accommodate  inventory. The new location in Midtown Plaza spot gives the business two additional loading docks, and other additional space.

The address is 25 Fairview St., South Glens Falls.

MWBE Program Ready To Expand In NY State

Posted onMarch 9, 2018March 9, 2018

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has announced legislation to reauthorize and to expand the MWBE program to more contracts entirely funded by the state.

The proposed legislative changes and expansion to include all state-funded contracts would leverage the largest pool of state funding in history to combat systemic discrimination and create new opportunities for MWBE participation at every level, according to Cuomo.

Since 2011, state-certified MWBEs have won more than $10.4 billion in state contracts and the state has certified more than 6,600 MWBEs and re-certified more than 4,700 MWBEs.

“In New York, we know that our economy is strongest when everyone is empowered to participate, which is why we continue to work to increase access and opportunities to success for minority and women owned businesses to strengthen and diversify our economy,” Cuomo said. “These actions will break down barriers to success and empower these business owners to help fuel our economy and move this great state forward.”
