Leadership Saratoga’s 32nd Class Underway

Leadership Saratoga, a program of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, announced its 32nd class of participants.

The Leadership Saratoga program selects up to 24 people each year to participate in an intensive nine month training program designed to teach them skills for stronger leadership, group dynamics, and issues facing Saratoga County and area nonprofits. After completion of the program participants are expected to volunteer as leaders in their communities within Saratoga County.

The group held its opening retreat in September at Minnowbrook Conference Center in Blue Mountain Lake.

Health Education Is The Focus Of Local Summit

In a push to strengthen healthcare education enrollment, Stat Staff Professionals Inc. and the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce are co-sponsoring the first Healthcare Education Summit in Saratoga Springs on Oct. 19.

The event is being held in the Peerless Room of the Embassy Suites in Saratoga Springs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is open to the public.

The event grew out of Stat Staff’s education initiative to assist not only its own caregivers, but to enable all prospective nursing and allied health students to have access and aid to healthcare education, officials said.

SIS Launches Its First Middle School Program

The Saratoga Independent School (SIS) formally opened its new Middle School in September.

The Middle School at SIS is for students in  sixth grade this fall and will expand by adding seventh grade in the fall 2019 and eighth grade in Fall 2020 school officials said.

A ribbon-cutting event celebrated its opening at the SIS campus at 459 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the thoughtful and unprecedented growth of SIS, a school that has more than doubled in enrollment in recent years, and has doubled in physical size since 2016,” said Lisa Brown, SIS head of school. “The Middle School at Saratoga Independent School is here.”

New Red Roof Inn Owners Plan Upgrades

The Red Roof Inn in Clifton Park has undergone an ownership change. The new owners are giving a makeover to the facility.

“We are making it fabulous. It will be as nice as any hotel in Clifton Park, but at a lower price point,”  said Alan Schnurman, one of the new owners.

Schnurman and his partners have been active in the Hamptons on Long Island and other downstate areas, but this is their first venture in the Capital Region. Schnurman said they zeroed in on Clifton Park because of its great growth rate, its reputation as a growing tech area, and the surrounding vacation attractions

Athena Real Estate LLC acquired Saratoga RV Park in Gansevoort.

Athena Real Estate LLC has acquired Saratoga RV Park, a 154-site park located at 4894 Route 50 in Gansevoort.

The property joins a growing collection of RV parks and resorts operating under the umbrella of Applebrook RV Parks.

Saratoga RV Park offers full amenities and full service sites for seasonal and transient guests. According to the new owners, the property is well positioned competitively and provides guests with a strong location to access the fantastic activities and attractions in the area.

Licensed real estate broker Cindy Quade has been working with home buyers, sellers and builders for more than 30 years.

She recently re-branded her successful firm, Signature Homes, to Signature One Realty Group, Inc. and she relocated to 2575 Route 9 in Malta, directly across from Ace Hardware and strategically located between Malta and Saratoga Springs.

Quade said the re-branding works with all the new things her team is doing and it embodies “all the things we’re about.”

Single-Game Tickets Now Available For The Adirondack Thunder’s 2018-19 Season

The Adirondack Thunder now has single-game tickets on sale for the upcoming season at Cool Insuring Arena. The home opener is Oct. 20 vs. the Brampton Beast.

The Adirondack Thunder announced that all single-game tickets are now available.

The team opens its home slate on Oct.  20 vs. the Brampton Beast at the Cool Insuring Arena.

Tickets for all 36 Thunder home games are available at the arena box office, open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as online at coolinsuringarena.com.

The Thunder has also announced that Opening Night will feature the Stewart’s 4-Pack, the return of a successful mini-pack give-away. The Opening Night Stewart’s pack is priced at just $64 and includes: four opening night Adirondack Thunder tickets for the Oct. 20 game, four Adirondack Thunder water bottles, four games of bowling at Kingpin’s Alley in South Glens Falls and one $20 gift card for Stewart’s Shops.

Ray Energy Opens A Propane And Rail Truck Terminal In Hampton, Near Vermont Border

Ray Energy Corp. recently opened a new propane rail and truck terminal in Hampton, near the New York-Vermont border.

A formal opening with ribbon cutting and an open house was held on Aug. 23, but the company has been using the new facility since March.

The company, headquartered in Troy, serves nine states in the Northeast, plus areas in Canada, from a network of five rail terminals, nine pipeline terminals, and a marine terminal. They are termed a midstream wholesale propane supplier They neither produce gas nor sell it on the retail market.

Plug Power Moves Into Saratoga County With New Manufacturing Plant In Clifton Park

Plug Power Inc., a manufacturer of hydrogen-powered fuel cells based in Latham, opened a new manufacturing plant in Clifton Park in August. The new facility, at 620 Van Patten Drive, will supplement the company’s existing manufacturing plant in Latham. 

The company said the facility provides the expanded manufacturing capacity required for Plug Power products to meet the rapidly growing demands of the hydrogen fuel cell industry.

Plug Power is investing nearly $2.8 million over five years for the new 38,400-square-foot facility. Plug Power estimated that it will add 97 new jobs to its current roster of 650 employees. Because of the commitment to creating new jobs, Plug Power will receive nearly $640,000 in tax credits under the state’s Excelsior Job Program.

GlobalFoundries Stops Development Of New Microchips, Lays Off Workers In Malta

GlobalFoundries announced in late August that it is shifting its strategy and will cease development of cutting edge manufacturing technologies and stop all work on its 7LP (7 nm) fabrication processes. Instead, the company will focus on specialized process technologies for clients in emerging high-growth markets.

The change has resulted in layoffs. GlobalFoundries will eliminate 455 jobs at its Malta plant and another 31 based at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Albany, according to filings with the state Department of Labor.

The company employed about 3,400 people before the restructuring.
