With the acquisition of Goodemote Physical Therapy in Saratoga Springs, Capital Area Physical Therapy and Wellness, headquartered in Malta, has grown to three offices (the third, in Queensbury).
Within a month, it will have 13 physical therapists on staff and eight administrators.
The practice began in 2013, with only two therapists, Dr. Andrew Gaetano and Dr. Evan Marsh, who had been college classmates.
“We did everything, at first,” Marsh said, from greeting patients to cleaning the restrooms. “But, slowly and surely, it been to grow.”
Currently, the practice sees approximately 1,400 patient visits a month in Malta; about 500 (but “growing steadily”) in Queensbury; and 750 a month in Saratoga Springs, said Marsh.
The practice is “growing back” after cutbacks that became necessary during the COVID pandemic.
Doing physical therapy without physical contact required “a lot of creativity,” Marsh said. “Telehealth” became a buzzword. The therapists had to learn to analyze movement visually and, generally, be very adaptive.
Physical therapy without in-person contact “was challenging,” he said.
Although COVID is still around, there are no more requests for telehealth. Hands-on treatment is back. Some patients and staff members still wear protective masks, but they are not required.
Capital Area Physical Therapy expects to incorporate Dr. Goodemote’s practice into the business with little change. All but one staff member is staying on.
During the months of negotiations with Goodemote, “it was nothing but a wonderful relationship,” Marsh said. While the former owner is still available to answer questions, Marsh said, he is not otherwise involved.
The acquisition allows the company to provide more resources. The business also benefits from the Goodemote practice’s excellent reputation in the community, Marsh said.
The new Saratoga office is located at 3 Maple Dell, near Northway Exit 15.
