Saratoga County will soon have a another ALDI grocery story open for business.
The new store will be located off Lowe’s Drive in Wilton. A new road, called ALDI Drive, will also be constructed to allow access to the store from Old Gick Road.
According to Bruce Persohn, ALDI South Windsor Division vice president, the plan is for the store to open before the end of 2020.
“When it comes to choosing store locations, we look at many factors,” said Persohn. “We want the best sites that are closest to our shoppers and can support a high daily traffic volume. As the demand for ALDI grows, so do our real estate options. Bottom line: We want to be conveniently located for our shoppers, and the Saratoga Springs/Wilton community was a natural fit.”
The new store will be about 12,000 square feet and will follow the streamlined layout that has made ALDI popular among consumers.
“Our stores only have four or five aisles, providing a streamlined, efficient and simple shopping experience. A study from Kantar, commissioned by ALDI, shows that shopping at ALDI is at least 20 percent faster than shopping at Kroger or Walmart stores,” said Persohn.
First founded in 1976, ALDI has opened nearly 2,000 stores across 36 states and is projected to be the third-largest grocery store in the United States by the end of 2022. Along with the streamlined shopping experience, ALDI is well-known for high-quality brands and products, many of which are ALDI exclusives, according to the company.
Ground has not yet been broken on the 2.1-acre lot. Once open, it will employ 15 to 20 people.
