April Fresh Cleaning celebrated 20 years in business this year by expanding its services into carpet and floor cleaning, as well as mold, water, fire and smoke damage mitigation.
The company specializes in commercial janitorial services, commercial and residential floor cleaning and upholstery cleaning.
April Fresh Cleaning recently purchased a new Butler carpet cleaner. The van-powered system allows them to clean carpet, upholstery, tile and grout, and other stone flooring. They recently finished the certification classes for water, mold, fire and smoke remediation.
Owner April Weygand began the company as a sole proprietor. She held side jobs as a cleaner since she was a child.
“I was cleaning houses by myself at age 13. I got my first client by myself at the age of 14. So, it was always something I was good at,” she said.
Weygand went to be a college to be a teacher, but after teaching professionally she decided it was not what she wanted. She quit and took half a year off to solo hike the Appalachian Trail, stretching between Maine and Georgia. Weygand hiked the entire trail alone over the course of 6 months.
She returned to Saratoga Springs in 1999 after the expedition to figure out what she wanted to do next.
“When I moved back home, I knew I didn’t want to teach again, but I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I took a job cleaning an office just to help pay the bills, just to make my car payment while I figured out what I wanted to do,” said Weygand.
The part-time cleaning job turned into a full-time job, “then turned into a company simply out of necessity,” she said. “I had to hire people to help me and before I knew it, I was running a small business.”
Weygand intentionally kept her business small while raising two children, so as to allow time with them. As her children grew into their teens, she decided to expand the services the company offered.
As April Fresh Cleaning continues to grow its services and clientele, Weygand is looking for a new location.
“We’ve completely outgrown the space we’re currently in. Trying to find a location with an office and a garage attached for our truck and supply storage, that is somewhat close to downtown Saratoga, has been challenging,” said Weygand.
The company serves clients in Saratoga, Queensbury and Latham.
“Our first priority is finding a Saratoga location. Then we’ll start looking for property for our Queensbury location, and after that, property for our Latham location,” said Weygand.
April Fresh Cleaning is always looking for new hires. An online job application can be found on the company’s website, www.aprilfresh.com.
