The second installment of the “Lucky’s Adventures” children’s book series has been released from author Elizabeth Macy.
“Lucky’s Adventure in Winter Wonderland” follows Lucky and 13 of her dog friends as they enjoy winter fun, recognize the good fortune of their lives and decide to give back to a local animal rescue shelter.
“The inspiration from the first book, ‘Lucky’s Adventure in Saratoga’, was based on a true story. Lucky was lost in Saratoga Springs for four days,” said Macy. “The community was so supportive. It was all over Facebook and social media, and the community really helped find her. It was a wonderful story that I wanted to share about my hometown.”
The new book features many familiar landmarks from the city.
“I adopted Lucky about three and a half years ago through Capital District Humane Society. I work a lot with (local animal rescue organization) H.O.P.E. here in the area,” said Macy. Lucky is a small, white yorkie terrier mix.
Macy is a professional photographer by trade. Her studio, Image Photo, is located in Saratoga Springs.
“I never even considered writing a book before. It was just such a wonderful story, I felt I needed to share it with other people,” said Macy.
“In the second book, ‘Lucky’s Adventure in Winter Wonderland’, the dogs bring coats and toys to the rescue shelter. They make new friends, and they help them get adopted. It’s really all about friendship and kindness, giving back in the community, and bringing awareness to rescues. That’s what was really important to me,” said Macy.
“Lucky and her doggie friends have a fun winter adventure, skating, skiing and snowshoeing. Lucky realizes she is very lucky and has so many great friends, and was rescued. She decides she wants to give back, and all the dogs visit a rescue shelter,” said Macy.
“We ended up with five rescue dogs in the book. I couldn’t choose just one,” said Macy.
One local canine, Murray Murphy, of Glens Falls, was one of five rescue dogs who won the contests to be included in “Lucky’s Adventure in Winter Wonderland.” The dog came into some fame in 2018, when he was nationally recognized by Thomas’ English Muffins as their number one fan. The dog is owned by Emily Murphy, director of the Charles R. Wood Theater in Glens Falls.
Macy has written a third installment in the series, which will feature Lucky on a camping adventure. The book will be released in early 2020.
Jenn Kocsmiersky illustrated the book. Saratoga Springs Publishing published the book.
A donation from each book sale is made to rescue shelters.
