Inspired by the cosmopolitan atmosphere and economic growth in the Saratoga area, Corinth native Michael Siska recently opened a barber shop in the Saratoga area to cater to businessmen and professionals.
Siska’s Barber Shop, at 148 South Broadway in Saratoga Springs, has already begun to attract clients looking for an upscale experience, he said. Siska, along with two other barbers, offer services such as general men’s cuts, gentlemen’s cuts, business cuts, eyebrow trims and hot towel shaves. Clients are also offered complimentary espresso and coffee, beer, red and white wine and even hand-rolled cigars.
“The vibe in here is the most important thing to me right now,” said Siska. “We want people to feel like they can come in here and feel at home.”
After attending Austin’s School of Spa Technology, Siska worked his own booth out of a tanning salon in Corinth, before renting out an old café, where he opened his first barber shop.
Siska had always hoped to have a shop in Saratoga, and after four years, closed down his first shop to open his Saratoga location.
Since opening on July 9, Siska said business has been growing steadily.
“The amount of repeat customers we’ve seen is what counts. Anyone can try out a barbershop, but whether they come back or not is the big thing. I know anyone who comes here and sits in these chairs is going to stay in these chairs.”
“Saratoga’s growing … Everyone needs haircuts. There’s a lot of room for growth in this shop.”
While focused on growing his clientele, Siska intends to offer additional services to customers in the future. He has plans to hire on an esthetician to do procedures such as microblasion, dermatherapy, massages and more.
As part of his plans to increase clientele, Siska’s Barber Shop currently has a promotion ongoing for Skidmore students and staff to receive half off the price of their first appointments. Additionally, the shop also boasts a “Hero Discount,” which offers $5 off any appointment to clients who work in healthcare or the military, EMTs, firefighters and policemen.
Siska’s Barbershop is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, or to book an appointment, visit siskasbarbershop.com, or call (518) 886-8464.
