The 2019 Saratoga Hospital Golf Invitational raised $157,514 for the hospital’s nursing scholarship program.
More than 300 golfers and guests turned out for the annual event, which was held at Saratoga National Golf Club in September. Presenting sponsor was A.O.W. Associates Inc. of Albany.
Since the scholarship program was launched in 2002, 127 recipients have earned their associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing. Another 36 are working toward their degree.
Nursing education plays a key role in maintaining Magnet recognition for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center—the highest honor an organization can receive for professional nursing practice.
Saratoga Hospital has been a Magnet facility since 2004, when the hospital became the first in the Capital Region to attain this designation. Only 28 of New York’s 222 hospitals have earned Magnet recognition, including two in the Capital Region. Nationwide, there are 488 Magnet hospitals.
In addition to A.O.W. Associates, major event sponsors include WNYT News Channel 13, Pepsi Beverages Co., Saratoga National Golf Club and Camelot Print & Copy Center.

Saratoga County announced that they have received a special accreditation from the State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. The Saratoga County Office of Emergency Service (OES) achieved statewide accreditation through the Local Emergency Management Accreditation Program.
Saratoga County joins New York City, Oneida, Livingston, Broome, Montgomery, Albany and Madison counties as the only jurisdictions obtaining accreditation at this time.
The accreditation comes after the DHSES and the State Emergency Management Association (NYSEMA) reviewed key factors related to the county’s preparedness including administration, training, citizen preparedness, use of the incident command system, emergency communications, mitigation, damage assessment, debris management and incident recovery. The county’s Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation plan was also included.
The purpose of the program is to ensure county emergency management offices in each of the state’s 62 counties are following certain operational standards. Accreditation is valid for five-years.
