When Win Supply, formerly Security Supply, cut the ribbon on its new building at 5 Finley St., it opened the curtain on a new business model, as well as a new name and a new, larger, building.
The plumbing and heating supply company is now part of a 600-company conglomerate, each doing business as Win Supply, ownership said.
Under the arrangement, Win owns half of each company, The other half is owned by local investors. In the case of the Saratoga Springs site, the local investors are John Dower, the president of the new company; Pat Brundage, Frank Scirocco and Sean Leach.
The new building has five times the warehouse space as the old headquarters at 50 West Ave., double the parking space and about 50 percent more showroom space, Dower said. It will also be more accessible.
The total space will be 15,000 square feet, compared to 6,000. He estimated the cost at close to $3.75 million, including the cost of acquiring the land.
Bonacio Construction was the general contractor for the project. Much of the cost of the new building has been borne by Win.
The company closed its old building on June 21 and opened the new one on July 1.
Security Plumbing and Heating Supply had been in business in Saratoga Springs since 2003.
“The Win Supply name may be new but we have been in the business for a long time,” Dower said. The company leased its former site, but owns the new one. In addition to paying for the new building, Win will help with distribution and provide other financial backing, he said.
Much of the company’s business is with plumbing and heating contractors. However, Dower said, they have always had a lively retail business and he expects that to continue. Their main product line is from Kohler and he expects that brand to dominate the new showroom as well.
The new location, on Finley Street is just off South Broadway.
The Win Supply Family of Companies is a leading supplier of materials for residential and commercial construction as well as industrial use.
