Fall class registration at the Academy for Lifelong Learning (A.L.L.) begins July 22.
Noncredit classes start the week of Sept. 9 with the term ending in November. Look for the Fall Term Class Registration and Membership application brochure in area libraries, the Academy office at SUNY Empire State College, 113 West Ave. or on the website at www.esc.edu/all.
Registration forms are being accepted for open classes throughout the summer. Some classes will sell out. Call the Academy office in August for open class availability at 587-2100 x2415.
Thirty-one different non-credit classes are offered Monday through Friday during the day and cover a wide range of genre including: history, art, literature, current world issues, health, religion, writing, science, and economics.
Volunteer-led classes typically meet for two hours once a week for four to eight weeks. Most classes are held in SUNY Empire State College classrooms at 113 West Ave. in Saratoga Springs with several “on site” offerings at a variety of local outdoor venues.
Annual membership is $65 and goes through June 30, 2020. Class fee for an eight-week class is $50, $25 for a four-week class. The fall term is sponsored by Prestwick Chase at Saratoga.
New classes this term include: Great Decisions 2019, Chinese Wisdom, Science Behind Gardening, History of World War One, Mindfulness Part 2, Italian Part 2, Trumping the Truth, Walking in Nature at Wilton Wildlife Preserve, Dante’s Divina Commedia, Music of Our Lives, Journeys Into a Rich Heritage, Centuries of Struggle, and Jane Austin.
All new lecture topics are being presented in the Monday Speaker Series, History in Our Capital Region Towns Series, and Ageless Wisdom. History, Art & Science day trips, and Local Tours Behind the Scenes will be visiting all new locations.
Back by popular demand is Genealogy for the Beginner and the Advanced, Making Sense of Investing, Enjoying Poetry, Painting Lab, Writers Circle, Hikes at Moreau Lake State Park, Italian, Revealing the Mysteries of the Dismal Science: Economics for the Curious Observer, A Cultural and Historical Journey Through India, China and Japan, Theater Games and Improvisation, and Exploring Art at the Tang.
Founded in 1992, the Academy is a nonprofit, membership organization with nearly 500 mature learners who share a love of learning. An independent entity, A.L.L. is sponsored by SUNY Empire State College and affiliated with the Road Scholar Institute Network. Designed to stimulate the mind and energize the body in classroom and social settings, A.L.L. also offers a spring term and Special Interest Groups, (SIGs) and special trips and events which are held throughout the year.
