Ground was broken April 29 for the construction of Albany Medical Center’s new medical complex in Clifton Park.
The 14,400-square-foot medical office complex, expected to open in October, will be located just west of Shenendehowa High School at 989 Route 146 in Clifton Park. Officials said it and will house an Albany Med EmUrgentCare, a newly renovated and expanded satellite office for orthopaedic specialists with The Bone and Joint Center, and other medical tenants.
The $4.5 million project was designed by HCP Architects and the facility is being built by BBL Medical Facilities in collaboration with Columbia Development Companies, who will own and manage the space once it’s completed.
“The medical facility on this site was originally constructed in 1993,” said Richard Rosen, vice president and partner of Columbia Development Companies. “There is nothing permanent except change. This new project exemplifies community redevelopment addressing the changes in health care. Improved parking, new infrastructure, better patient flow, and new technology will enhance the delivery of care in these new modern facilities.”
The site was the previous home of a medical office built in 1993 for several small practices including Capital Care Physicians, and a smaller Bone and Joint satellite office.
“Albany Med is committed to doing all we can to make the highest quality health care more accessible to residents of Saratoga County and throughout the region,” said Dennis P. McKenna, M.D., Albany Med executive vice president, president of the faculty practice, and senior associate dean for clinical affairs. “We are grateful to our partners at The Bone and Joint Center for joining us to help us provide expert care to the Clifton Park community.”
When the facility opens, Albany Med EmUrgentCare will operate from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, including holidays, for patients of all ages seeking treatment for urgent and non-urgent illnesses and injuries such as sprains, strains and fractures, cuts and lacerations, colds and flu, ear and throat infections, asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia and more.
In the fall, fellowship-trained doctors and surgeons of The Bone and Joint Center will provide treatment for orthopaedic injuries and conditions affecting the ankle, back, elbow, foot, hand, hip, knee, neck, shoulder, spine, and wrist in addition to specializing in general orthopaedics, orthopaedic oncology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, sports medicine, total joint replacement and revision, and trauma at the Clifton Park facility.
Albany Med is one of the largest private employers in the Capital Region. It incorporates the 734-bed Albany Medical Center Hospital, which offers the widest range of medical and surgical services in the region, and the Albany Medical College, which trains the next generation of doctors, scientists and other healthcare professionals, and also includes a biomedical research enterprise and the region’s largest physicians’ practice with more than 450 doctors.
Albany Med is affiliated with Columbia Memorial Health and Saratoga Hospital to provide the largest locally governed health system in the region. Combined, these three hospitals offer nearly 1,100 beds and outpatient locations throughout the Capital Region. Albany Med works with dozens of community partners to improve the region’s health and quality of life.
