The Saratoga County Foundation’s Veterans Business Council is offering up to $10,000 in scholarships, to be awarded to Saratoga County Veterans for the academic year beginning in the fall of 2019.
The two $5,000 scholarships are a new initiative from the group of Veterans business leaders in the community, which seeks to help unemployed and underemployed Veterans advance their careers. Applications are being accepted to be considered as one of the two inaugural recipients and donations toward the effort are also being encouraged.
Eligibility includes, but is not limited to U.S. veterans, active duty, guard, and reserve members who live, or work, or attend college within Saratoga County.
Applications are available at www.saratogaveterans.org or by contacting Denise Romeo, Executive Vice President of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, at 518-584-3255. Funding for the scholarships is coming from fundraisers conducted by the Veterans Business Council, but donations toward this program are encouraged and can be made at www.saratogaveterans.org.
“This new scholarship initiative will help veterans from Saratoga County pursue higher education to create better opportunities for themselves and their families,” says Karen Charbonneau, chair of the Veterans Business Council.
“This is another example of the Veterans Business Council helping to lead the effort to recognize and support Veterans in Saratoga County, and is yet another initiative by The Saratoga County Foundation designed to improve Saratoga County’s economy and quality of life,” said Todd Shimkus, president of The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce.
The Saratoga County Foundation is a nonprofit 501c3 charitable organization. Its programs seek to engage everyone in a range of meaningful goals, including ensuring Saratoga County is one of the healthiest places to live; ensuring Saratoga County is one of the best places to live for veterans; and providing free mentoring and counseling to entrepreneurs and small businesses.
The Veterans Business Council operates under the Foundation, and is made up of a select group of veterans who are business leaders in the region. It works to facilitate opportunities for our military veterans residing in Saratoga County, including connecting them with the business community to enhance their knowledge of employment opportunities, job or entrepreneurial training, and new business development.
Applications must be postmarked on or before April 27. Applications and donation information are available online at www.saratogaveterans.org.
