Saratoga County Clerk Craig A. Hayner announced Saratoga County Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) offices will encourage organ donation enrollment throughout April in recognition of National Donate Life Month.
This is a joint effort between the Saratoga DMV, NY Donate Life, and the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors to increase organ donation enrollment in the state.
National Donate Life Month features local, regional, and national activities to encourage Americans to register as organ, eye, and tissue donors and to recognize those who have saved lives through the gift of donation.
Throughout April, Saratoga County DMV locations in Ballston Spa, Clifton Park, and Wilton will have donation information available for New Yorkers to learn more about organ, eye, and tissue donation and the impact it has on thousands of New Yorkers.
Additionally, the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution recognizing April as Donate Life Month and will raise a Donate Life flag above the County Office Building complex at 40 McMaster St., Ballston Spa during the month.
According to Donate Life New York State, New York has the third highest need for donors in the country, yet the second lowest percentage of registered donors.
Out of the approximately 9,500 New Yorkers on the waiting list, more than 1,700 have been waiting for life saving and improving transplants for more than five years. Each year, an estimated 400 men, women and children in the state die because to the shortage of donors.
