The state Department Motor Vehicle office at Clifton Park Center is scheduled for renovation and expansion in 2019.
The County Board of Supervisors, at their October meeting, approved the extension of the lease of the Clifton Park Center DMV Office and funding for renovation of the space to better serve customers in Saratoga and the surrounding counties.
The expansion and renovation project will grow the space by more than 1,300 square feet, making the total space after expansion 4,868 square fee, according to Saratoga County Clerk Craig A. Hayner.
“This expansion of our busiest motor vehicle office has become necessary to maintain the high-quality service for which the Saratoga DMV office has become known,” said Hayner. “Once completed, this will make our Clifton Park DMV one of the most efficient and innovative Department of Motor Vehicle offices in the Capital Region.”
The expansion and renovation project will include an increase in the number of customer transaction windows as well as two dedicated “fast lanes” for quick transactions, such as vehicle registration renewals, license renewals and plate surrenders. The new layout will feature a more comfortable and spacious lobby with natural and energy efficient lighting with a dedicated testing area, Hayner said.
An increase in volume at the Clifton Park office has been attributed to growing population and ease of service, as well as the “Renew Here” marketing campaign that encourages residents to conduct transactions locally rather than online or through the state DMV.
The county collects approximately 12.7 percent of the revenue generated from transactions conducted at each of the county-operated DMV offices. In 2017, DMV revenue exceeded $600,000 above all expenses, including rent and payroll; and is projected to exceed $800,000 for 2018, the clerk said.
Further growth is expected for 2019 and 2020 as REAL ID and Enhanced Driver’s license applications continue to grow as well.
Renovations will be done in phases over the ensuing months to limit interference with operations at the office. The office will be open for business during the renovations and will continue to process all DMV transactions and EZ Pass sales.
