Hannaford is slated to open a Ballston Spa supermarket and pharmacy off Church Avenue at Route 67, bringing to 50 the number of its stores in New York state.
According to spokesperson Eric Blom, the Scarborough, Maine-based chain filed a site plan with the town Planning Board and is “hoping for speedy consideration.”
He said several locations were considered and a number of factors carefully researched before the company selected a site for the new build.
Blom said demographics, traffic and customer demand influenced the ultimate decision.
“Hannaford customers appreciate fresh food and our every day low pricing model, so they can shop with confidence,” he said. “We appreciate the customer support in New York.”
According to Blom, Hannaford does not rely on a high/low pricing model like other stores, in which “artificially low sales prices on certain items are offset by inflated prices on other items.”
“We are proud of our customer service,” e added.
Blom said the new Ballston Spa store will have a footprint similar to the 38,000-square-foot stores on Trieble Avenue in Milton, near Northway Exit 15, and on Round Lake Road near Northway Exit 11.
Hannaford typically uses local contractors to build stores, although none have been selected this early in the planning process, which is the company’s main focus at this time, according to Blom.
He said it is expected that the new store will provide jobs for between 100 and 110 full-time and part-time employees.
“It is common for senior leaders to come up through the ranks, moving among stores as they progress in their careers,” said Blom.
