Cantina Restaurant recently re-opened at its new location at 408 Broadway, in the building that was formerly the home of Lillian’s Restaurant.

Owner Jeff Ames said he felt the former Lillian’s property would lend itself well to his plans for the new Cantina. If it had been another building, he might not have made the move.

Ames hired the Clifton Park firm of Syvertsen Rigosu Architects PLLC and Bonacio Construction in Saratoga Springs for the renovation. The building is now is a marked departure from the more traditional style of the former Lillian’s. The façade of the building is completely open, with large glass-paneled doors that can open to the sidewalk during good weather.

People looking for a change from a pony or lizard on their polo shirt can replace it with an abstract racehorse and jockey, the “brand” of Embrace the Race, a horse racing-themed clothing store opening in a new location at 327 Broadway in downtown Saratoga Springs.

The business was founded six years ago by Mike DeAnzeris III as a small retail store, also in Saratoga Springs, and an online presence. The business already has customers in all 50 states and seven or eight foreign countries, most of whom found them through the local  shop, he said.

Embrace the Race, according to DeAnzeris, “serves the stylistic and emotional needs of horse racing enthusiasts.” In fact, they have registered both the “Embrace the Race” trademark and another one, “the apparel for the horse racing lifestyle.”

‘Above And Beyond’ Hiking Challenge Seeks To Raise Money To Help Fight Addiction

Posted onJuly 5, 2018July 6, 2018

Helping an addict to recover is often a series of steps taken one at a time. Saratoga Hospital is taking that literally in its new hike fundraising campaign, the Above and Beyond Challenge, presented by the Adirondack Trust Co.

The Challenge encourages businesses and individuals to take advantage of the scenic geography of Upstate New York, while raising funds and awareness for the Addiction Medicine Program at the Saratoga Community Health Center.

This new program features volunteer-led hikes up peaks across the Adirondacks, including the 46 High Peaks, the Lake George Twelve Peaks and the Saranac Six Peaks. The hikes are free and will include a committed adherence to responsible hiking with respect to the natural beauty and protection of the trails, hospital officials said.

The Above and Beyond Challenge is the brainchild of Stephan R. von Schenk, president and CEO of Adirondack Trust Co. and former chair of the Saratoga Foundation Board, who is an avid hiker and outdoorsman.
