Legacy Timber Frames Inc., a local boutique timber frame company that has clients all across the country, recently just finished a project for an RV showroom in Iowa.
Though they’ve worked in Maryland, Illinois, Florida, Maine and more, the majority of their work is local and their headquarters are located at 691 County Road in Stillwater. The company recently celebrated its 30th year in business.
Legacy Timber Frames’ president Annemarie Mitchell described the company as more of a sub-contractor, as they do not general contract an entire home or building. Instead, the company provides timber frames for various projects.
After completing a project for Albany RV in Latham, the owner requested Legacy Timber Frames also work with them on a project in DesMoines, Iowa. For the project, Legacy Timber Frames crafted and installed timber frame accents and porches for the exterior of a new RV One showroom.
The company cut the timbers in their shop in Stillwater, then delivered them to DesMoines, where they were installed. The project took eight days and was completed in mid-March. According to Mitchell, everything went smoothly, and the client was happy with the work.
“I think our success has been because we really focus on the personal touch and a high level of quality,” said Mitchell. She and company vice president Dan Roseberger are “actively involved with every timber frame we produce.”
A type of post-and-beam construction method, timber frames are a historic architectural method that was once the norm prior to the industrial revolution. According to Mitchell, the practice came back into fashion in the 1980s, and has continued to be popular in New England.
While other similar businesses may use machines to cut their materials, Legacy Timber Frames takes pride in the fact that their frames are all handcrafted. According to Mitchell, the most common woods they use are douglas fir and locally sourced eastern white pine and eastern hemlock.
Legacy Timber Frames’ services include design, manufacturing and installing custom timber frames for entire homes, porches, interior trusses, or timber accents.
