Prior to 2018, the native plants grown at Jessecology Eco-Friendly Landscape Design’s private nursery were earmarked for the business’ landscaping projects, or sold wholesale to the trade.
According to owner Jesse Peters, that is changing.
Beginning May 15, each Friday the public will be able to visit the nursery at its location on Route 9N in Greenfield, or they can make an appointment to do so. Delivery is also available.
Since 2005, Jessecology has offered sustainable landscaping services and habitat restoration gardening to the Saratoga Springs region and the greater Capital District.
In 2013, the small company opened a private startup nursery, growing trees, shrubs, wildflowers and grasses indigenous to New York state. Many of the plants grown by Jessecology are on the federal or endangered species lists.
She said using these plants in landscaping projects offers ecosystem support for increased biodiversity and sometimes even the reversal of wildlife species extinction. Another advantage to choosing indigenous plants in landscaping is how easy to maintain the site becomes. Natives are well acclimated to the climate, and don’t require the pampering some exotic plants demand to thrive.
