The Moxie on Maple is a new salon to open in the Spa City at 19 Maple Avenue.
Co-owners Jennifer Marshall and Lisa Bernunzio have been involved in the industry for several years. Bernunzio lived and worked in New York City, attending the Carsten-Aveda Institute and working as a hair stylist. Marshall is from the local region and has worked in salons in the area.
The two also have experience as educators in the industry. Marshall works as an educator for Goldwell beauty products, while Bernunzio is employed as a trainer for Surface Hair.
The two met while working in Saratoga Springs and were inspired to start their own business.
“We worked at places that felt forced,” said Marshall. “We wanted to create an environment that was easy.”
The ambience of the salon is what Bernunzio and Marshall said makes them stand out from the rest.
“A lot of our women say that they feel like they have to get dressed up just to go to the salon,” said Marshall. “We wanted to do our own thing, differently than how other places were doing it.”
The Moxie on Maple offers quality hair care services in a casual, friendly environment that is welcoming to all clients. Bernunzio and Marshall work at the salon as hair stylists. They also have one other stylist, Melissa Ciccarelli, who has worked in the industry for 15 years.
The salon specializes in Goldwell and Surface Hair. They also feature DevaCurl. There are a wide variety of services such as cuts, color, corrective color, extensions, bridal styling and wedding day updos. There is also eyebrow waxing available.
Business has been very successful since opening in June.
“We have an extensive client base” the owners said, noting it can sometimes take a couple weeks to make an appointment.
“A lot of people say they feel comfortable here, they enjoy the feel of the salon.”
The Moxie on Maple is currently looking to hire a stylist to rent an additional booth at the salon. The owners said they are seeking someone who is experienced with the Goldwell line of products.
