Kelley Kindl and her husband, Scott Kindl, have both been cutting and styling hair in Saratoga Springs for more than 10 years. So, when the opportunity arose to open their respective businesses in a new location, it made perfect sense.
Sadie’s Hair Bar, a boutique-style hair salon, opened for business in early October at 455 Maple Ave. in Saratoga Springs and occupies space in the same building as Trendsetters Barber Shop, which is owned and operated by Scott Kindl.
Scott made the move to relocate his barbershop back in May. The space at 455 Maple Ave. was large and could easily accommodate more than one business. After talking it over, Kelly and Scott decided that it made sense to make the change to having her own salon. She had always rented space in other salons and this is her first foray as a solo stylist in a space of her own.
“I’ve been cutting and styling hair in Saratoga Springs since 2004 and I have established a nice client base,” she said. “So, the timing just seemed to be right.”
As a mother of two young children, having the flexibility of owning her own salon is working out well, she said. She can schedule appointments to fit her customers’ needs, as well as the needs of her young family.
“Change is always so hard, especially at first,” said Kelley. “But I decided it was time for a new adventure. And, now that I’ve made the leap, it’s such a freeing feeling and I’m really looking forward to the future.”
Scott Kindl did all the renovation and remodeling work on Sadie’s Hair Bar.
“I had the vision of what I wanted and, fortunately, Scott is very handy and he did all of the work,” said Kelley. “I wanted something cozy and I was going for the small, boutique-y and personal touch.”
The space is a mix of modern and rustic, with re-claimed wood and even a sliding barn door that separates the salon from the rest of the building. Large windows allow plenty of sunlight to pour into the space, giving it an open and welcoming ambiance.
The other part about owning her own business is the ability it gives Kelley to choose what hair care and other products she will carry in the salon. Initially, she is carrying a line of products called Surface, which contains all organic and natural ingredients.
“The company is all about sustainability and recycling, and it also is a very good product,” she said.
As she progresses, Kelley expects to gradually add more product lines for her clients.
