Spa City Chiropractic opened at 7 Wells Street in Saratoga Springs in July and Dr. Ashley Seaver is eager to offer her skills and area of expertise to area residents.
Specializing in pregnancy, postpartum and pediatric chiropractic, Seaver said she offers a more natural and safe option to expecting mothers, infants and young children for a variety of issues.
For pregnant women, chiropractic can balance the pelvis, eliminate undue tension to muscles and ligaments, and even enhance the position of the fetus. Seaver said that chiropractic treatment also contributes to an easier and safer delivery in many instances.
Seaver said chiropractic care can have a very beneficial effect on young infants, for problems that may seem unrelated at first.
“In cases of colic, for example, if the spinal cord is misaligned, it may be sending the wrong kinds of signals to the other organs, resulting in a colicky baby,” she said. “More and more people are seeing chiropractic as a beneficial and natural form of health care, and the goal of chiropractic is to be preventive, rather than reactive.”
Recent studies have shown that chiropractic care has positive benefits for children in different areas, including improving motor skills, sleep patterns, and boosting their immune systems.
Seaver said it is a good idea to bring even healthy infants in for an assessment, noting that the force and pressure of going through the birth canal can sometimes result in misalignments that could cause problems later.
“With young babies, the bones are still forming and it is much easier to make changes and re-alignments at this stage,” said Seaver.
Seaver said often, her infant patients sleep through their entire treatment.
While Seaver acknowledged that pediatric and pregnancy chiropractic is still not as widely known or accepted, it is steadily growing in popularity.
Seaver is a native of Ballston Spa and, after completing her training at Logan College in St. Louis, she decided to return to this area three years ago to begin her practice. While she still treats patients at another office she shares in Warrensburg, the opening of her first solo practice in Saratoga Springs is something she has been wanting to do for a while.
Seaver decided to pursue a career in chiropractic after becoming very familiar with it as a student athlete at Ballston Spa High School. She regularly used chiropractic to treat sports-related injuries. Seaver also attributes chiropractic treatment to eliminating the headaches she suffered from while growing up.
The pace at Spa City Chiropractic has been increasingly steadily since opening in July, something which Seaver attributes to the many referrals she has been receiving from other health care professionals in the area.
