Construction is about to begin on a Market 32 supermarket in western Clifton Park, near the intersection of routes 146 and 146A.
The Golub Corp., which owns Price Chopper/Market 32 stores is building the store under its new moniker, hopes to open by early next summer. They cleared the last administrative hurdle–zoning board approval of proposed signage–in mid-October.
The new building, at 52,000 square feet, will replace a smaller Price Chopper store in the area. Mona Golub, spokesperson for the company, noted that western Clifton Park has more new residential development than any other part of the Capital Region.
“We look forward to adding the very best we have to offer” to that growing market, she said.
She said it is the only new store planned for southern Saratoga County at this time. However, a new store in Fort Edward is expected to open before the 2016 holiday season.
Nigro Construction will build the new Clifton Park store.
The Golub Corp. operates more than 130 stores in New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire.
Two years ago, the company announced plans to remodel all of its stores over an eight-year period at a cost of some $300 million as it switched its brand from Price Chopper to Market 32.
The company promised the new brand will change food shopping for its customers by modernizing its stores and offering new services and products.
