Sitwell Enterprises LLC plans to build a series of office and retail buildings at 2443 Route 9 in Malta.
Company officials said the project will consist of three one-story buildings. The first will be an office building of 15,300 square feet. The other two will house retail businesses. One will be 14,186 square feet and the other 13,830 square feet.
The company hopes to break ground within the next two months, according to the project’s engineer Scott Lansing of Lansing Engineering in Malta.
Since the creation of GlobalFoundries in 2009, the town of Malta has experienced population and economic growth. The community has only continued to increase in size. Several local businesses have expanded and many fresh businesses and restaurants have popped up, adding more diversity to the area.
Lansing said Sitwell Enterprises LLC is already drawing interest from businesses seeking retail and office space, but nothing has been decided yet.
"We are currently marketing the space and have had interest from a coffee shop, deli, barber, nail salon, day care and personal trainer," Lansing said.
"We feel the building will provide an attractive place for businesses to locate and provide needed services to the growing area," he added.
