The Markets at Round Lake announced that Death Wish Coffee Co. will be a major sponsor for its inaugural two-day indie craft and artisanal food and drink marketplace in August.
The event marks a major change for what used to be an arts and crafts festival, organizers said.
The Markets at Round Lake will run Aug. 13-14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. It will feature four distinct, highly curated markets: an indie maker market, a progressive craft market, a used books market and artisanal food and drink market.
It will benefit Round Lake Libraries.
The Markets at Round Lake will take place throughout the center of the historic Village of Round Lake. Victorian cottages with gingerbread trim separated by open green spaces will provide the backdrop to what is being called “the shopping experience of the summer,” organizers said.
After hosting a more traditional arts and craft festival for over 30 years, the Woman’s Round Lake Improvement Society, presenters of the inaugural Markets at Round Lake, decided it was time for a major change.
“The Markets at Round Lake is all about breaking from tradition while still honoring it,” said Eva Sbardella Sackal, co-chair and event producer. “Having Death Wish Coffee Co. as our major sponsor highlights that precisely. Many of these makers and artisans, like Death Wish, use age-old techniques in new, distinct ways. You recognize their products before you even see their name. That’s a pretty powerful thing and is why we look at the brand and presentation, in addition to the products.”
Kane Grogan, events coordinator for Death Wish Coffee said the company is “excited to be a part of Markets at Round Lake. It’s not very often we get to contribute to something in our backyard and this particular event is going to be fantastic. Hopefully this is the first of many to come.”
Organizers said attendees won’t find $1 trinkets or oversaturated trends. “These brands and goods are on par with the finest quality luxury goods, but at more reasonable prices as shoppers buy directly from the makers and artisans,” they said in a news release.
One such brand is the art design studio Pratt & Hebert. Sarah Pratt, who runs the studio with her husband, Curt Hebert, said, “We love their philosophy. We use traditional craft methods to create progressive design, and the Markets at Round Lake honor that fusion of art, craft, and design. We are also excited about the location in the lovely village of Round Lake. An expertly curated market in such a beautiful setting is a pretty perfect scenario for makers like us.”
Officials said price points range from $5-$30 for all natural soaps, cleaning supplies, cosmetics, candles and illustrations to about $8-$450 for hand crafted wears such as leather goods, hand painted art, ceramics, jewelry, vintage up-cycled shoes, and more.
The Markets at Round Lake is a chance to meet the makers and shop locally while benefiting the Round Lake Libraries. Admission is free.
Other sponsors of the Markets at Round Lake include the Mill on Round Lake, Edible Capital District, And North, Conlin Studios, and the Vischer Ferry General Store. It is presented and produced by the Woman’s Round Lake Improvement Society and the Historic Village of Round Lake.
