For Lisa Liptak, being conscious about the
environment is not just her career. It is something
she integrates into her daily life. When
she opened Nurture Green Salon and Spa, she
thought about ways she could make her facility
a better place for the earth.
Nurture Green Salon and Spa, at 182 South
Broadway in Saratoga Springs, had its grand
opening ceremony in November. Liptak was
interested in creating a salon and spa that promoted
a green atmosphere.
“Hair salons are very toxic places,” said Liptak.
“I want to show people that you can pamper yourself
and take care of the earth at the same time.”
Liptak has been a hair stylist for 17 years. She
got her degree from BOCES.
“I worked at a salon in Greenwich, I worked
at the mall, I moved into booth rental, and then
finally I decided to open up my own place,” she
said.
Liptak is environmentally conscious in her
personal life and career. “I like to live a green
lifestyle. I’m a very mindful person. I think it
should be important to everybody.”
At the hair salon, Liptak and two other hair
stylists offer a variety of services, including cut
and coloring. Some of the hair care lines used
include Original Mineral, Surface, and Neuma.
Fairytales is a line of products used for children.
The products do not contain parabens, sulfates
or other chemicals that are normally found in
hair products.
Nurture Salon and Spa also features massage,
facials and waxing. The skin care line is called
SkinScript. The spa features a line of vegan, ecofriendly
makeup called Emani.
Liptak said she put a lot of thought into
creating a facility that is fully environmentally
friendly. The floors are made of bamboo and
cork, which are more sustainable materials than
many other flooring options. The spa features a
clay wall, to help absorb toxins.
Many of the furnishings in the salon such as
the chandeliers and the desk have been upcycled,
which is creative re-use of unwanted materials.
There are hand towels in the bathrooms instead
of paper towels, to use less paper, and glassware
for water instead of paper cups. Many of the items
came from Green Conscious, an eco-friendly
vendor located in Saratoga Springs, so the items
are local as well. The salon even recycles the foils
used during the hair coloring treatments.
“People are blown away by our appearance,”
said Liptak. “We’re classy, but friendly. And we’re
all very talented.”
For people who are not sure whether an ecofriendly
salon is the right choice for them, Liptak
said, “what you put on your skin gets absorbed
in 26 seconds. The difference between eating
something that’s bad for you and putting it on
your skin is that when you digest it, at least your
digestive system can break it down. When you
put it on your skin, it goes directly into your
bloodstream.”
Nurture Green Salon and Spa is open Monday
