The United States Mint will join with the
National Park Service to launch the America
the Beautiful Quarters program coin honoring
Saratoga National Historical Park on Tuesday,
Nov. 17, at 9:30 a.m. at Schuylerville High
School, 14 Spring St. (Route 29), Schuylerville.
The event is open to the public. Schools
and individuals wishing to follow the event
remotely will be able to watch a live streaming
video on WNYT TV 13’s website,
www.nyt.com.
The Saratoga National Historical Park
quarter is the 30th release in the U.S. Mint’s
America the Beautiful Quarters program, a 12-
year initiative to honor national parks or other
national sites in all 50 states and the five U.S.
territories. The coin’s reverse design depicts a
close-up of the moment Gen. John Burgoyne
surrendered his sword to Gen. Horatio Gates, a
turning point many believe marked the ‘beginning
of the end of the American Revolutionary
War.’ Inscriptions are “British Surrender
1777,” “Saratoga,” “New York,” “2015” and “E
Pluribus Unum.”
After the ceremony, Glens Falls National
Bank will run a “quarter exchange,” and individuals
will be able to exchange cash for
rolls of quarters, one roll minimum/10 roll
maximum, for $10 cash per roll. Friends of
Saratoga Battlefield www.friendsofsaratogabattlefield.
org will have a sales table for
those wishing to purchase commemorative
quarter sets.
