In April, Robert DiFusco pitched his tent
on the outskirts of Saratoga Springs for the
second season of Furlong’s Family Fun,
an outdoor restaurant offering barbecue,
smoked meats, ice cream and other treats.
Last year, the business’s first season, was
a “real good opening season,” according to
Fusco.
He described Furlong’s as “a real family
place” with plenty of parking.
The tent can be used for parties for special
events, rain or shine. For such events,
Furlong’s provides food and ice cream, in a
spacious venue for business groups, sports
teams, and friends to gather for any sort of
celebration.
Furlong’s regular ice cream comes from
Vermont and the “very popular” soft serve
is from a local dairy farm. The meats are
smoked in-house.
There are five tables inside the restaurant
but plenty of room for customers at
the picnic tables under the tent out front.
Furlong’s also offers barbecue catering for gatherings and special events. The
menu includes meats, side dishes, and
freshly made salads. The smoked barbecue
includes everything from chicken, beef
brisket, pulled pork to ribs. Everything is
made from scratch fresh daily with quality
ingredients from original southern recipes.
Most of the small staff are Saratoga High
School student athletes, he said. DiFusco is
a coach and substitute teacher at the high
school. He coaches boys’ junior high school
baseball and junior varsity volleyball and
girls’ junior varsity basketball.
So far, Furlong’s is just a place to eat.
But DiFusco is currently going through the
permitting process to add a miniature golf
course. If all goes well, it will be open next
year, he said.
Furlong’s is open 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.,
seven days a week, from April to October.
It is located at 588 Lake Ave. (Route 29E),
Saratoga Springs. The telephone number
is 581-8636.
Its website is www.furlongsfamilyfun.com.
