“I love what I do, but I also love to have time
for my family,” said Gordon Sinclair who, after 15
years of 100-hour weeks working on Wall Street,
struck out on his own as the sole principal in
Saratoga Springs Capita, LLC, a commercial real
estate financing and advisory firm headquartered
in Saratoga Springs.
His New York City lifestyle “was not conducive
to family life,” so he and his family made
the change last fall. His wife is from Waterford
and they are living there while they look for the
right house in Saratoga Springs. He is from the
Syracuse area. They expect their first child next
month.
The new company will line up financing and
equity for commercial real estate projects and,
he said, “help to close the analytical and information
gap.”
“There are a lot of salesmen out there,” he said,
“but not a lot of analysts. We can run all the math
on loans, for example.”
Over the years, he claims, he has developed
“connections that reach every corner of the
country” and can draw upon those connections
to help a developer locate an equity partner,
arrange financing and, perhaps most important,
evaluate a project.
All the company’s business comes by referral,
Sinclair noted. “We don’t advertise at all.”
They also keep client information confidential
so, for example, people will not find examples on
their website of projects that have worked on.
“It is not our property to disclose; we let the
owner do that,” he said. “It’s an old-school way of
doing business,” but that it suits him. “It keeps
things honest; it keeps things right.”
Sinclair has two partners, Joseph DiMiceli
and Gabriel (“Gabe”) Irizarry. The company has
seven employees, some of them, part time. They
are analysts or partners.
Saratoga Springs Capital operates on a nationwide
basis. Compared to a local company, “We
have a larger and broader network and we are
able to open up some doors that otherwise people
might not be aware of,” said Sinclair.
Sinclair did his undergraduate work at Syracuse
University and holds an MBA and an MS in
information systems from Boston University.
Although the business has a local number for its
land lines, Sinclair still uses his Boston-based
cellphone number.
“I want people to be able to keep in touch,”
he noted.
The company recently rented office space at
2202 Route 50 South, about two and a half miles
from downtown Saratoga Springs. They expect to
move into those quarters in May. In the meantime,
they are operating out of space in Waterford.
