The Michaels Group LLC, a Malta-based
residential construction and development
company, has donated approximately 1.6
acres of land adjacent to SUNY Adirondack
in the town of Queensbury for the college’s
future development plans.
The parcel was appraised at approximately
$150,000 and is part of the Hiland
Planned Development District (PDD),
according to Michaels Group principal J.
David Michaels.
The Michaels Group had donated a 12.38-
acre parcel to the college in March 2010.
The new property–with frontage off Meadowbrook
Road in Queensbury–abuts the
previous parcel, giving the college almost
14 acres of property added to its original
141-acre campus.
The 14 acres represents the largest donation
of land to the college since Glens Falls
Insurance Co. donated the original Bay
Road parcel to the college in the mid-1960s,
officials said.
Michaels said he and his late brother,
John, had discussed the donation prior to John’s untimely death in the summer of
2014.
“Our company strongly believes in giving
back to the local community,” Michaels
said. “We felt the college was a vital local
resource providing both quality and affordable
higher education to its students. John
was completely behind the decision.”
Michaels said the larger of the two parcels
was given to the college with the idea
that the land could be used for athletic
and recreational purposes, freeing up the
current athletic fields for possible college
expansion.
The most recent parcel, which is contiguous
to the first parcel, has frontage along
Meadowbrook Road and is water and sewerready,
he said.
SUNY Adirondack President Dr. Kristine
D. Duffy thanked the Michaels Group for
the donation.
“We appreciate the continued generosity of
The Michaels Group, and we will incorporate
this additional land into the college’s strategic
planning for future use,” she said.
