The Chamber of Southern Saratoga and
the Southern Saratoga Chamber Angels will
hold their largest fundraising event for the
year’s holiday season, “An Evening for the
Children,” 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov.
13, at the Mohawk River Country Club &
Chateau in Rexford.
This year, it will be celebrated as the
Chamber’s 2nd Thursday evening mixer.
In addition, the Chamber Angels are
honoring Sue Malinowski Catroppa, executive
director, CAPTAIN Youth and Family
Services, for her years of compassionate
support of families and children in the
Saratoga County community.
“Sue has been a great partner and fervent
supporter to those who are most in
need in our community,” said Chamber
President and CEO Pete Bardunias. “It is a
privilege to honor her for the work she has
done in support of the Chamber Angels as
well as many worthy causes in our region.
We believe the Chamber Angels represents
an important way to bring holiday cheer
to children of our financially challenged
families.”
Catroppa’s career includes her work at
CAPTAIN Youth and Family Services for the
past nine years, first as a member of the
board of directors and currently as executive
director since 2010. Her career began
at the St. Anne Institute in Albany in the
early 1980s. Since then, she has worked
for a number of nonprofits serving children
and families including the state WIC (Women, Infants and Children) program
and the American Lung Association.
She also served as director of education
for 13 years at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy
and Saratoga Hospital. She is a member of
the Twin Bridges Rotary, which led her to
volunteer work at the Ronald McDonald
House in Albany. She also holds a position
on the Clifton Park Halfmoon EMS board.
The Southern Saratoga County Chamber
Angels, a charitable arm of the Chamber of
Southern Saratoga County, provides holiday
gifts for children of families enduring
financial hardships. In its 25th year, the program provides for 2,000 children, from
infant to age 18, in collaboration with the
Southern Saratoga YMCA, Mechanicville
Area Community Services Center, CAPTAIN
Youth and Family Services and Franklin
Community Center.
The children are identified through
school districts and county agencies that
then pass on the children’s ages and wishlists
to the Southern Saratoga County
Chamber Angels.
The Chamber of Southern Saratoga
County, the 2014 recipient of the New
York State Chamber of the Year Award, is
a membership-based business organization
representing businesses in the region for
47 years.
