An Albany chiropractic practice has expanded
into Saratoga Springs with an office
on Broadway.
Saratoga Chiropractic opened on the first
floor of 376 Broadway. Leading the office is Dr.
Jaclyn Purcell, a native of Guilderland who now
calls the Spa City home.
Dr. Purcell said the practice serves a wide
range of patients, including infants, pregnant
women and athletes. She offers classic chiropractic
adjustments as well as more gentle
techniques such as Activator adjusting, SOT
(Sacro Occipital Technique) blocking and
flexion-distraction therapy.
“I see anything from people with back pain
and headaches to healthy athletes who want
to stay well,” she said.
Saratoga Chiropractic is an extension of
Medwin Chiropractic, the Albany practice of
Dr. Kerstin Medwin. Purcell began working
with Medwin, a friend for the past decade, in
February. She now spends two days a week
at Medwin Chiropractic–which is part of
Albany Total Wellness, a health care cooperative
on Everett Road–and three days a week
building the practice in Saratoga Springs. She
sees patients in Saratoga Springs on Mondays,
Tuesdays and Fridays.
The expectation is that starting next spring, Purcell will devote all of her time to
the Saratoga office. At the moment, she is the
only employee of Saratoga Chiropractic. Appointments
and billing are handled in Albany.
“The goal in the future is to grow and have
employees in Saratoga but right now it is not
necessary so it is just me up here,” she said.
Purcell graduated from Siena College in
Loudonville, and then moved to Seneca Falls
to attend New York Chiropractic College. Her
next stop was Westchester, where she practiced
for a short time before moving to Brooklyn. For
three years she ran an office in Crown Heights.
But she and her husband, who is also from
Guilderland, wanted to return to the Capital
Region. They chose Saratoga Springs because
they had been married there, and liked the city,
its culture and people.
“I feel like I am home here,” she said.
During their years of friendship, Purcell
and Medwin had often talked about working
together some day. Purcell’s return to the
area made that possible, and gave Medwin
Chiropractic the opportunity to expand into
Saratoga.
“We are basically partners in this office but
it is my baby, if you want to put it that way,”
Purcell said.
She said she has found Capital Region residents in general more open to chiropractic
treatment than people in the New York City
area.
“When I was first practicing [downstate] I
would hear ‘I don’t need you yet’ which makes
me think they don’t understand. It’s like saying
‘I don’t need a dentist.’ Everyone should get
checked. But up here more people seem to
have an idea of where chiropractic treatment
fits into their life. That’s a good thing.”
The practice can be reached at 435-1280. Its
website is www.saratogachiropractic.com and
it can be found on Facebook.
