Lady Sheila Stable Two, LLC, a newly
launched syndicate that started adding
investors in May, ran its first horse on the
racetrack in September.
Hot Like Hepburn made her debut in the
fourth race at Belmont Park on Sept. 17, in
a Maiden Special Weight race for New Yorkbreds.
The two-year-old filly did not finish
in the money.
Lady Sheila Stable Two, managed by
Sheila Rosenblum, who is also the owner
of Lady Sheila Stable, relies significantly
on female investors. The syndicate also
further solidifies the partnership between
Rosenblum and acclaimed trainer Linda
Rice, who has entered the ownership group
as a member and selects and trains all of
the horses.
Rice is a fixture as a top trainer at the annual
Saratoga Race LeCourse meet.
Currently, there are seven total investors
in the syndicate.
“It has always been a dream of mine to
share my love of horse racing with friends
and other like-minded women. The debut
of Hot Like Hepburn is the culmination of a
tremendous amount of hard work and perseverance
and we couldn’t be more excited,”
said Rosenblum.
“When I first launched the syndicate, I
imagined that most of the investors would
be friends or acquaintances. I did not expect
an outpouring of interest from women I had
never met, drawn in by the allure and excitement
of horse racing. We are well on our way
to providing women with the opportunity to
gain exposure and experience in an often
male-dominated game,” she said.
In addition to Hot Like Hepburn (Freud-
All of Me, by Unbridled’s Song), Lady Sheila
Stable Two also owns two fillies who have
yet to race, Hillaryinthehouse (Freud-Lake
Champlain, by War Chant) and Redheaded
Rita (Tale of the Cat-Tartan Lady, by Malibu
Moon).
Lady Sheila Stable Two expects to add
one to three more horses, with an average
purchase price of $200,000, to complete the
initial launch of the stable.
At the recently concluded Saratoga Race
LeCourse meet, Lady Sheila Stable sent out
six runners and compiled a record of 1-2-1.
The earnings of $88,700 ranked in the top
100 of all owners who competed at the meet.
Lady Sheila Stable has a record of 16-12-11
from 65 starts since its inception, with earnings
totaling more than $1.1 million. In 2014,
due to the emergence of La Verdad, the stable
has earned more than $660,000, ranking in
the top 120 of 25,000 owners nationwide. The
stable has a 7-6-5 record in 25 starts in 2014.
The ownership group strongly encourages
the participation of female investors at a time
that the racing industry has experienced an
increased interest among women. According
to NBC Sports, 52 percent of the 16.2 million
viewers of the 2013 Kentucky Derby were
women, the only major annual sporting event
that draws stronger viewership numbers
among females than males.
The investment opportunity with Lady
Sheila Stable Two, LLC is open to accredited
investors only. The minimum investment to
become a member of Lady Sheila Stable Two
is $100,000. Each membership unit in the
stable costs $100,000 and it is anticipated
that there will be no ongoing costs charged
for a two-year period.
