The Fortunate Cup Cafe at 120 West Ave. in
Saratoga Springs has new owners.
Steve Scheidel of Albany and David Zummo of
Oneonta are partners in the venture.
The pair also owns and operates Capital City
Coffee Roasters in Castleton-on-Hudson, east of
Albany. Zummo owns and operate a boutique steak
house, Prime 289, and the Latte Lounge, a cafe,
both in Oneonta.
The new owners said their respective passions
for great coffees and quality foods made the purchase
of the Fortunate Cup an easy decision.
“We knew that the Fortunate Cup had a great
reputation and the community on the west side of
Saratoga wanted to keep this open,” they said in a
statement. “It was a good fit for us and our new customers
seem to be enjoying our new twist on things”.
The two have made several updates to the Fortunate Cup menu. Gluten-free bread and gluten-free bakery items were added, as well as some vegetarian options and new sandwiches, salads, wraps and bakery items.
The drink menu has undergone updates as well. The most significant, they said, “is due to the fact that we are craft coffee roasters with years of barista skills.”
Scheidel said a small-batch craft roasted coffee in the hands of a well-trained barista is what will set the locally operated espresso bar and cafe apart from the chains who serve massed produced coffee products.
He said Capital City Coffee Roasters provides high quality coffees beans to many cafes, espresso bars and fine dining restaurants in Saratoga and throughout the region.
Capital City Coffee Roasters offers specialty grade Arabica coffees. The Company’s products include single-origin, estate, certified organic, fair trade, signature blends, and flavored coffees sold under the Capital City Roaster’s brand and private label.
The coffees can be purchased for home use at the Fortunate Cup Cafe, but also at Mochalisa Cafe in Clifton Park, the Iron Roost in Ballston Spa and the Perfect Blend in Delmar. The Fortunate Cup Cafe offers free wireless Internet, large-screen TVs with video conference capability, and a conference room for business meetings and small parties. It can be reached at 226-0800.
