An old adage suggests that if you don’t want
something, give it to someone who does. Such is the
case with Spa City Recycling (formally Fiegalman’s
Scrap Yard) at 77 So. Franklin St., Saratoga Springs.
ferrous and non-ferrous metals, copper, aluminum,
steel, construction scrap and old appliances to sell
to Spa City Recycling and turn trash into cash.
The business accepts scrap from a wide range of
sources, from individual home owners to corporate
and industrial businesses.
Fiegalman’s was established as a scrap yard in the 1900s and went through four generations until James Riccardi and Giorgio Atzeni bought it from Adele Fiegalman and took over the business last year.
They said metal prices vary quite a bit depending on the market, but metal is always a good market to be in.
Riccardi, Spa City Recycling president, said he learned about the business of selling metals when he went to work with his father in the metal processing business. Atzeni, vice president, has experience in buying scrap metals.
Scrap metal recycling has gotten a bad name over the years, due to a problem with theft of metals in attempt to sell for profit. Riccardi and Atzeni said they go to great measures to insure the scrap they buy was legitimately acquired. Measures to avoid stock and lot theft include keeping an off-site storage area with night vision surveillance.
“We work very closely with the local authorities on theft” Giorgio said.
