Ballston Spa High School Robotics
Team 3044 was part of an alliance of
teams that recently won first place at the
northeast regional F.I.R.S.T. Robotics competition
at Worcester Polytechnic Institute
in Massachusetts.
It will now compete at the 2012-2013 FRC
World Championship on April 24-27, at the
Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Mo.
After months of preparation and design of a robot that not only could shoot Frisbees into a goal but also climb, the students competed over three days in qualification matches and eliminations rounds before successfully winning the two out of three matches during the finals for the competition.
The winning alliance partners in addition to Team 3044 included Team 2168 the Aluminum Falcons and Team 3280 the RhodeRebels from Providence Rhode Island.
Team 3044 also won the Team Spirit Award sponsored by Chrysler at the regionals.
This is Ballston Spa’s fifth year as a F.I.R.S.T. Robotics participant and the team, with close to 50 students, would not be possible without the assistance of many volunteer mentors, the school community, and sponsors to support the building of the robot and the travel to competitions.
The district continues to seek and receive corporate sponsorships for the team, including this year’s sponsors Ballston Spa National Bank, Advanced Energy Conversion, Time Warner Cable, CSArch, Guyson Corporation, TCT Federal Credit Union, Gilbane Building Company, The Adirondack Trust Company, Technical Building Services, Specialty Silicone Products, Bechtel, Team Howard, Inc. and Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield.
