Oh Wheatfields, why must you leave me wanting more every single
time? This place is an overall great experience, not just based on the
food, but atmosphere, waitstaff (shout out to my man Connor!), and great
company combine together to make a powerhouse of a restaurant.
Wheatfields will always be held close to my heart, as it was there where
my love of food turned into my greatest passion. I spent one summer of
my life working in their kitchen, claiming the name “gnocchi queen”
after producing the bulk of that summer’s gnocchi inventory. So all you
Wheatfield goers in the summer of 2009, you’re welcome for the
perfectly rolled out gnocchi!
When I had to choose which restaurant I’d blog about first, I
immediately knew it had to be Wheatfields. And while my opinion of the
place may be biased, this was my first ever dine-in experience, so it
was very much new to me.
As per typical restuarants, we started off with a basket of bread
which was accompanied by two types of spread, a garlic basil butter and a
hummus spread.
30 seconds after this picture was taken, we had to ask for more. The
bread was warm and toasty, and both spreads were surprisingly
delicious, individually or combined with one another. Although it was
hard to stop myself from eating the whole loaf, I had to contain myself,
because I knew what was coming my way next.
Enter the famous chicken and sausage scarpetta.
Seriously, it doesn’t get any better than this. Homemade ziti along
with red and green peppers, juicy chicken and sausage, sitting in a pool
of marsala wine sauce. After the first bite, it’s like dying and going
to heaven. If I could recreate this at home, I would make it every day
of the week and I still don’t think it would be enough for me. It’s
easy to say it was love at first sight 2 years ago, and I haven’t
stopped thinking about it since.
Here’s some other options that my dining friends indulged in:
Wheatfields Market Salad with Shrimp- a bed of romaine, chickpeas,
pancetta, cucumbers, and tomatoes topped with blue cheese and citrus
vinaigrette dressing with your choice of shrimp or steak.
Ravioli formaggio- Classic ricotta filled ravioli smothered in a
tomato sauce and sprinkled with chopped basil and shredded Parmesan
cheese.
Finally, it’s time for dessert. Although there was an entire tray of
options, when the opportunity presents itself, I almost always go with
the tiramisu. This time was no different.
Oh hey beautiful, long time no see. The tiramisu was moist and
smooth, just the way it should be. Presentation is always nice to have
as well.
If I could suggest any type of improvement throughout this whole
meal, it would be that the tiramisu was a little stronger on the
espresso to get that kick mid bite.
As for my final recommendations, I’d say to definitely call and make
reservations, because you never know how long the wait might be. Sit
wherever you feel comfortable, if you like outdoor dining then go for
it, and if you like the AC in the summer time, then definitely sit
inside. When it comes to food, if you like something a little
different, do yourself a favor and try the chicken and sausage
scarpetta. If you like something a little more classic Italian, try the
one pound slice of lasagna or the famous gnocchi! No matter what you
get, chances are you’ll be happy.
Owners Tim and Colleen Holmes really put their heart and souls into
this restaurant, and you can tell by the way it’s run. Wheatfields gets
an A in my book, and there’s nothing anyone can say that would ever
deter that.
