Broadway 385 is a modern interpretation of the historical United States Hotel, which stood in the same location in the 1800s and was at one point the largest hotel in the world. The 5th floor terrace showcases the key architectural elements of the building, incorporating synthetic slate and copper, built as a nod to the historical architecture of the 19th century.
The project included demolition of the existing 22,000-square-foot building 2019. The tight site on Broadway required complex and continuous logistics planning and coordination. “It is exciting, but there is complexity to this. It is kind of like building a ship in a bottle,” says Rosecrans.
While construction was temporarily paused in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic, work resumed as soon as it was safe to do so. “We worked extremely hard to stay on track during this unprecedented time. Everyone did their part with daily temperature checks and approved PPE (personal protective equipment) to ensure the job site was as safe as possible.”
